The Philadelphia Phillies usually get off to a bad start in April. And they are once again this year.
They say you can't win the season in April. But you could certainly lose it. And after the first month of the season, the Philadelphia Phillies are letting April showers drown them. They stand at 9-14 going into Friday night's game against the New York Mets. Five games under .500 and their worst start since 2006. Basically there's one word to sum up their performance so far this season: pathetic. The starting pitching has been inconsistent. The bullpen has gotten rocked. The offensive bats aren't just cold; they're pretty much icy. The defense stinks. The fundamentals are lacking. Pathetic. Case in point was Roy Halladay's performance Wednesday night. The pitcher has turned things around since a shaky start and question marks about his …

Trio of Phillies stars meet with Ugandan and Plymouth Little League teams in Plymouth Meeting.
As it so often is, baseball was at the center of something special in nearby Plymouth Meeting on Tuesday. An All-star catcher for Major League Baseball, born 33 years ago in Panama, stood next to an 11-year-old Ugandan boy, as they clasped their fingers through a dugout fence and watched a homerun sail over the outfield wall. The catcher took a step back and smiled at the boy, extending an arm for a fist bump. Taking a moment to look the gesture over, the boy smiled back and popped his knuckles against those of Carlos Ruiz. Feet away, Jimmy Rollins, the longest tenured Philadelphia Phillie, walked briskly into the dugout and directly into an embrace with Ugandan manager Henry Odong. Smiling, Odong brought out his wallet and began to dig …

Dr. Lori reveals the surprising history and value behind Cracker Jack prizes.
Do you remember the lazy days of summer when you were a kid? You played croquet in the backyard with the rest of the neighborhood gang, frolicked in the lawn sprinkler, or went to the ballpark to take in a baseball game. Snacks were part of the summer fun and a popular snack food was Cracker Jack, the candy-coated popcorn and peanut snack. An early form of Cracker Jack was first sold at the World’s Fair in Chicago (also known as the World Columbian Exposition) in 1893. By 1896, the popcorn and peanut snack was perfected and sold by the Rueckheim Bros. & Eckstein Company. While the delightful snack became a well-known American treat, it also became associated with the American past time, the game of baseball. In 1908, Cracker Jack was …
