The following releases were in the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce January Newsletter: This year’s Career Conference for Future Leaders was held January 10th and 12th at the West Campus of Montgomery County Community College. The annual event, now in its thirteenth year, gave 300 eighth graders representing 12 local schools the opportunity to learn about careers from those with experience in the field. Among the career speakers were Spring-Ford Chamber members Joe Giunta, Phoenixville Federal Bank, Mickey McDaniel, Spring Ford School District, Drs. Spring-Ford Chamber Also Honors St. Pedro & Associates
The Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce held a special lunch at Spring Hollow Golf Club on Thursday afternoon to celebrate 20 years in existence. The Chamber, as described by former board President Joe St. Pedro, was originally formed as a branch of another chamber, but after a $9,000 fundraising effort one year, the branch decided to become its own entity - leading the Spring-Ford area to business- and community-oriented prosperity. In attendance were 88 people, ranging from Senator John Rafferty, Limerick Township Manager Dan Kerr, Spring City Mayor Michael Weiss and representatives from 58 businesses. Money will be used to do more work on Manderach Playground.
Limerick Township Parks and Recreation Director Karen Hegedus announced at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting that her department intends to pursue a $170,000 grant that will allow for more improvements at Manderach Playground. The grant, funded by the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, will be used mostly for additional equipment and for resurfacing projects. Supervisor Joseph St. Pedro suggested that the department also look at grants from the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation and the Montgomery County Foundation. In the grant proposal, the department would emphasize that they have been very successful in raising funds on their own. St. Pedro agreed that that was important.
