Oaks-to-CHOP Run Will Raise Funds for Charity

Six months after heart surgery, an Elverson man will run a marathon.

Jeff McBride, 27, had major heart surgery on Sept. 17, 2012. On March 17, exactly six months after the operation, he plans to run 26.2 miles from Oaks to the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania.  McBride told the Tri-County Record that running is something that has always been a hobby, and it was running that McBride turned to  start recovering from his heart surgery.  "Running was always an activity I could do to get away from it all, let off any stress, clear my head. So I decided a while ago that I wanted to run another long distance (run) just to do it," he told the Record.  McBride says on his website, www.motivatedheart.com, that he was inspired to raise money for CHOP after his son was born on Christmas Day. He said he couldn't …

A real-life Santa Claus has taken the initiative to help a pair of struggling Montco families

A pair of struggling Montco families will soon find themselves on the receiving end of a Christmas miracle, thanks to the efforts of 38-year-old Dutch Schrap, of East Coventry, who has decided to take his professional Santa routine to the next level. The son of the elder Santa Schrap, Dutch has followed in his father's snow-covered footsteps for the past 21 years. He's made appearances everywhere from the Lansdale Mardi Gras Parade to gigs with the Philadelphia Flyers and Sixers, and he's even rung the opening bell at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. This year, however, he's looking to expand on his role by initiating Operation Nine Reindeer, which seeks to aid two families who are in desperate need of support. It all began on October 1, …

S.C. Shop to Help Kids in Need with Open House

Olde Knitting Mill Antiques will have pictures with Santa on Saturday.

Olde Knitting Mill Antiques will be holding its annual Christmas Open House on Saturday. According to the shop owner, Denise, the big event has been going on for five years, helping local children and their families in need. This year, two families will be sponsored, but Denise said there is definitely a need for one or two more. “We’ve been getting a lot of stuff,” she said. “A lot of people have been calling and saying they’re bringing a lot of stuff in. We wanted to provide each family a meal for Christmas Day, too. However, we’ve gotten much more food than just Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We’ve gotten enough to probably fill a couple of families’ cupboards.” Each family will get a turkey and a ham as a main part of the meals. As a…

Hi Kevin- thanks for the great story! I would like to put something out there to the other local businesses! We could use a little help! Why not stop by and drop off some gift cards for toys or food? There are a lot of local businesses in the Spring City/Royersford area that could help by donating $25.00.!! We could use some toys for these children.... and a little bit goes a long way for someone…   more ›
