MontCo to Issue IDs to Voters through Nursing Facility

Apparent loophole in state's voter ID law will allow any registered voter to obtain photo identification from the Parkhouse Senior Care Center in Upper Providence. Other locations may also offer the service.

With the 2012 elections less than seven weeks away, registered Montgomery County voters who still lack acceptable voter identification got an assist from the county's Board of Commissioners on Thursday. Exploiting an apparent loophole in the controversial Voter ID law that was passed by the state legislature last spring, the commissioners passed a resolution that will allow the county to begin issuing valid voter identification cards to registered voters under the auspices of the Parkhouse nursing care facility in Upper Providence Township. The resolution takes advantage of a section of the law that lists which entities are allowed to issue acceptable forms of voter identification. Section 1 (z.5)(2) lists the federal or state governments…

Yes, the DMV hours are being expanded. With the exception of the people in nursing homes, you've just proved my point. DMV offices are open on Saturdays and nights. The single mom whose car broke down - does she have no family or friends? I'm am NOT part of your liberal "1%" - but I'm sick to death of everyone looking for a handout. I work hard for what I have, and I don't see anyone offering me …   more ›

Shapiro, Richards Win Election to Board of Commissioners

Castor, Brown concede in Blue Bell; uncertainty over whether Castor will resume commish seat in January

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners is headed for Democratic control. Incumbent commissioner Bruce Castor, Jr. and his running mate Jenny Brown conceded the election shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday to Democrats Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards, who are now Commissioners-elect. "Obviously, I'm disappointed," said Brown at the Montgomery County Republican Committee's election night party in Blue Bell. She expressed gratitude for the work done by the people who supported the Republican campaign. Brown said she will continue to serve as Lower Merion Commissioner, where she has two years left on her term. "I'm looking forward to getting back to my law practice," Brown said. Castor, who led all candidates in votes in his 2007 election to …

The Montgomery County Commissioners Meeting was held on Wednesday. Here is your recap.

At the Montgomery County Commissioners’ meeting Wednesday, the commissioners voted to approve their contribution of $21,021, 891 to Montgomery County Community College’s budget. Commissioners unanimously approved the budget. The county will provide $17,702,534 for operating costs, $959,236 for Capital Plant costs and $2,360,121 for debt services. The board also brought up the issue of the Willow Grove air base and updated its stance. He added that the commissioners are not planning on holding …

County Commissioners Race Heats Up

A confident group of Republican hopefuls held a Thursday morning press conference in support of the Brown-Castor ticket.

With the Montgomery County Republican ticket standing behind them, Jenny Brown and Bruce L. Castor Jr. held their first press conference, which aimed to solidify their stance and unify the party for the upcoming 2011 election in November. Standing inside the Swede Street entrance of the Montgomery County Courthouse, Montgomery County Republican Committee Chairman Bob Kerns began the press conference with a brief statement, introducing Brown and Castor and setting a tone for what seems likely to be a highly contested race against the Democratic ticket of Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards. "We have two candidates as commissioners who I believe are the epitome of what is good about Montgomery County," said Kerns. "We are ready to go. We are …

Dear Marc Lombardi - yes there are problems in both political parties - but the GOP censured Jim Matthews - the Dems simply chose not to put Hoeffel on the ticket. Big difference. I fault mostly Jim Matthews for what happened - he is a sellout. Voters thought they elected a conservative yet he threw his hat in with Hoeffel - that is a betrayal of voters. I guess the apple doesn't fall from the …   more ›
