Four dead in Montgomery County; the most recent was a 26-year-old Lansdale man, who died at Abington Memorial Hospital.
The influenza outbreak in Montgomery County has claimed its fourth and youngest victim of the flu season. 26-year-old Andrew Pogoda died Jan. 3 at Abington Memorial Hospital, according to WTXF FOX 29 [link goes to video report]. Pogoda suffered from asthma, which complicated doctors' efforts to help him recover from the illness. The other three victims of the flu in Montgomery County have been among the elderly. Health officials have recommended that everyone over the age of six months be vaccinated. Montgomery County health officials recently expanded the hours for free vaccination at sites around the county. Police are withholding the man's identification, pending notification of his family.
The body of a 48-year-old male was discovered this morning along the railroad tracks beneath South Charlotte Street. According to a report by the Pottstown Mercury, police responded to call from Norfolk Southern shortly before 1:30 a.m. The report states that railroad workers discovered the body "half-sitting with his back against the wall under the bridge." Police are withholding the man's identification, pending notification of his family. Though there is no evidence of foul play, the body is currently being examined by the coroner's office, according to the Mercury's report. To read more of this story, click here. Royersford Borough lost one of its own last week with the passing of Donna Zabaska, a crossing guard at 4th Avenue and Spring Street, and an employee at Giant. Zabaska passed away on April 5. She was 43. "It's very sad [to lose] a part of our family," said Borough Manager Michael Leonard. Zabaska was the crossing guard at that post since 2004. Mayor John Guest said Zabaska's replacement was sworn in on Tuesday night. Her name is Elaine White and she starts immediately on Wednesday. In other news, Leonard noted the logistics for pricing on the repair/replacement of the basketball courts at Victory Park are being worked on. He was fondly remembered at services here in Delaware County on Tuesday. The former Drexel Hill resident and Upper Darby High School alum was a firefighter in Upper Darby for 41 years... James R. and Mary W. Isett, entered into eternal rest a week apart from one another. Mary passed away on February 24th and James R. on March 1, 2012 at Seasons Hospice of Phoenixville. Mary was born in Pottstown to the late Joseph and Dora (Burgone) Walters. She was raised in Spring City and graduated from Spring City High School. She was employed for many years as a secretary at Phoenixville Hospital, Houck Funeral Home and worked a short time for the Photo Mat. Mary was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Royersford, PA. KRAMER Matthew A. Kramer, 54, of Royersford passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Wanda (Swist) Kramer. Matthew was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharistic Minister and traveled to Medjugorje in reverence of The Blessed Mother. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time outdoors. Nancy J. (Bard) Keyser, 85, wife of the late William M. Keyser Sr., of Upper Providence, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in her residence. Born in Phoenixville, she was a daughter of the late Allen C. and Evelyn (Aubert) Bard. Mrs. Keyser was a member of Green Tree Church of the Brethren. She loved dance and had taught ballet and tap dancing. She also played and taught the piano. A homemaker, Mrs. Keyser was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. Royersford Police Chief Kevin Schurr released information late Tuesday night in regard to a fatal accident that occurred during rush hour in Royersford.
An investigation is still ongoing in the death of a 72-year-old man that occurred on Main Street in Royersford on Tuesday night. The accident occurred at 6:15 p.m. between 9th Avenue and Lewis Road, near Advanced Auto Parts. Royersford Police Chief Kevin Schurr said Samuel Murdock, 72, of Vincent Heights in Spring City, was coming from Royersford Veterinary Hospital, 850 Main St., after he picked up his cat. Murdock attempted to cross the street to get to the bus stop, which would have taken him back to his home in Spring City. He was struck by a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Kimberly Villanova of Schwenksville. Murdock suffered severe head trauma.
