A beef and beer fundraiser takes place Friday evening in Lansdale for a local man diagnosed with cancer for the second time
Area businesses have contributed greatly for a cancer benefit this Friday evening for a Hatfield native diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 11 years. However, more raffle items and donations are still being accepted for the event. The benefit seeks to help cover the medical costs for Hatfield native and 1998 North Penn High School graduate Jason Heffner. Heffner, an amateur filmmaker who currently resides in the Juniata section of Philadelphia, is battling cancer without medical insurance. More than $1,200 has been raised so far via an online donation page. The Spring-Ford Booster Club needs help supporting the area's athletics teams.
The Spring-Ford Booster Club is looking for members and volunteers to help out area children afford to play the sports they love. President Jim Sellman said the club is looking to get more volunteers and more members. The club supports over 30 teams and more than 1,000 kids. Proceeds made by fundraising and membership allow student-athletes to get championship plaques and banners and participate in the annual senior banquet for all athletes. Therefore, we took the pleasure in holding a vote for the Best Local Business in 2011 in the Limerick, Royersford and Spring City area. We had some amazing nominations, including a historic ice cream shop, a famous breakfast shop, a cozy little coffee hangout, a brand new farm and an antique store. Keller Williams Real Estate made a direct impact on the community of Limerick back in June when it collected donations of food and money in the amount of $6,650 for "Operation Backpack." It also conducted a blood drive the same day with a turnout of over 30 participants for the "Miller-Keystone Blood-Bank." This was the first year the business held the event supporting children of needy families by collecting food and money donations to help keep children fed over the weekend. Qualified children in the program are given a backpack on weekends when they leave local schools filled with food to keep them fed until they return to school the following Monday.
