Fire Marshal: Dale Dr. Fire Deemed Accidental

A note from the Upper Providence Fire Marshal about last week's fire

Police and fire crews spent about two hours at the scene of a house fire on Dale Drive in Upper Providence Township last week, and Fire Marshal Joshua Overholt led the investigation to determine the fire's cause. Early on, it was determiend that the fire started in the shrubs in front of the house and then caught the actual structure on fire; however, Overholt did not know the origin of the fire by the time it was cleaned up. He issued a statement to Patch on Wednesday. "The Dale Drive fire’s origin has been classified as 'accidental' with mulch deterioration suspected of spontaneous ignition," he said. "This determination was based on the examination of other mulched areas and their current conditions, occupant interviews and the review …

"At this time, we have a half-double," Van Horn said of the house. "The fire originated on the back porch and compromised the kitchen and a small room located on the other side of the back porch. There's no electric to the back porch. So, we don't have an ignition source. Right now, it's undetermined." There were reports of "several explosions" by The Pottstown Mercury, during the fire. Van Horn explained that aerosol spray paint cans were located in the back porch area. Van Horn said the heat of the fire caused the cans to explode, along with a one-pint gas tank that was …

GALLERY: Spring City Resident Receives Relief from March House Fire

Grace Assembly of God, Vanguard and Good Works assisted in a local resident's plight

The following is a letter sent in by Pastor Jack Mason of Grace Assembly of God, recapping a Sept. 26 work day on Donna Hirst's home on Bridge Street. It was an early Sunday morning, March 6, 2011; I became aware that fire trucks were moving though the community.  It was later in the day that I learned that there was a house fire and it was at the home of Donna Hirst, at 123 Bridge St. in Spring City. Three days later Donna invited me to go with her to observe the extent of the damage.  I was awestruck by the fire and water damage. There were no rooms in the house that had not incurred damage.  The fireman’s report indicated that the fire had started in the neighboring side of the double.  I also learned that Donna did not have property …
