Limerick Township tax collector Ryan Wall has planned an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on May 15 to help area residents find out if they're eligible for a property tax or rent rebate from the state, and to help them apply if they are. The meeting will take place at the Limerick Township Municipal Building. Porperty tax and rent rebates are lottery-funded and managed through a state program to help lower-income people lower their tax burdens. Eligibility is based on a number of things. The program benefits Pennsylvanians 65 and older, widows/widowers age 50 and older, and adults with disabilities. Police reported finding drugs and needles in the woman's car.
A Limerick resident is facing charges after an April 10 traffic stop in Collegeville where, police say, she was found in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Deborah Jean Rich, 54, was pulled over by a state trooper near Main Street and 8th Avenue in Collegeville Borough, according to a report released by the Pennsylvania State Police. Police say Rich was uncooperative during the traffic stop and refused to obey numerous directives given to her by the trooper. Police say Rich was driving on a suspended license. According to the report, a search of the vehicle turned up prescription medications, hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia. Township offers online bill pay for 2013 property taxes.
Few people still write a check, seal it in an envelope and ship it off in the mail to pay monthly bills. Why should your taxes be much different? Limerick Township couldn't agree more. This year, taxpaying citizens that owe property taxes can make a simple payment online. Using the new online web service found here, residents can log in and make a payment. The system accepts American Express, Discover, Visa and Master Card credit card payments. The site is fueld by "MuniciPay," a nationwide payment solution web service. Limerick Township made the request earlier this week.
During Tuesday's Limerick Board of Supervisors meeting, township manager Dan Kerr said that he sent a letter to PennDOT requesting that they look at reducing the speed limit on Lewis Road. The speed limit is currently 45 mph on some parts of Lewis Road. Because it is a state road, the township has to go through PennDOT to make any changes like this. Keer said that PennDOT will probably do a traffic study and ask for information from the township and the police department. "They usually ask for crash reports, incident reports, and the police department will give them all the information," Kerr said. Kerr also said that while the township cannot ask for a specific speed limit in their request, he expects PennDOT would drop it to 35 mph.

Five charities will benefit from fees collected by the Industrial Development Authority.
Members of Limerick Township's Industrial Development Authority presented donations totaling $10,000 to five local non-profit organization on Tuesday evening. The Industrial Development Authority, which began in 2006, exists to help with employment and business development within the township. "We help builders get loans at lower interest rates than most banks," chairman Joseph St. Pedro said. For their help, the IDA collects fees, and then donates those fees back to non-profits in the local area. This year's recipients are Laurel House, the Royersford Area Community Chest, RSVP, Project Outreach and the Montgomery County Foundation.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has joined the Limerick Police in the crash investigation.
Authorities have identified the victim in Monday afternoon's fatal crash on N. Lewis Road in Limerick Township as Merinda Thompson, 40. An autopsy on her body is scheduled for later Tuesday. In a statement issued to local media, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman's office said that authorities are in possession of the cell phone belonging to the 18-year-old male driver of the green Ford Focus that struck Thompson as she jogged along the roadside. The driver had previously declined to provide the phone to police or to make a statement at the crash scene. Two minors were cited for disorderly conduct Tuesday afternoon following a fight that took place at the 7-Eleven store on Lewis Road near Spring-Ford Area High School. The fight took place shortly after dismissal at the high school. Limerick Township Police Chief William Albany said that both participants in the fight were minors, and both were turned over to the custody of their respective fathers. Both refused medical attention from Trappe Ambulance, which responded to the scene at the request of police. Police units from Royersford and Upper Providence also responded to the scene.

After pepper spray had no effect, police said the man had to be tasered three times before he could be taken into custody in a Feb. 2 incident on Swamp Pike.
A Pottstown man was charged with DUI and other offenses after a Feb. 2 incident on Swamp Pike in which he resisted arrest, according to Limerick Township Police. Police say Barry Grant Berger, 62, was traveling through an area on Swamp Pike near the intersection of Fruitville Road where police were directing traffic past the scene of an earlier one-car crash that had closed one lane of the roadway. Upon encountering Berger, Officer Kevin McGuigan determined that he had been drinking and asked him to put his 2000 Nissan Pathfinder in park, which, according to a police incident report, he had to do five times before Berger complied. No injuries were sustained in the two-car crash.
A two-vehicle accident closed much of Graterford Road in Limerick for about an hour on Thursday evening. Limerick Township Police said no injuries were sustained in the collision between a Toyota pickup truck and a Jeep SUV. The impact rolled the pickup truck. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Graterford Road was closed between Sunset Road and Township Line Road while emergency responders cleared the scene. The roadway was reopened to traffic at about 7:15 p.m.
