The following clip comes from the Business in Brief section of The Pottstown Mercury: SPRING CITY — Sen. Andy Dinniman recently honored Luigi Liberato, president and CEO of L. Liberato Steel Fabricating Co., for his success and contributions to the business community. “Liberato Steel is an excellent example of a locally based company that has found its niche in the marketplace and continues to grow as we experience more and more signs of economic recovery,” Dinniman said. “It’s my pleasure to recognize Mr. Liberato, who came to this country more than 40 years ago and through determination, innovation and sweat claimed his piece of the American Dream.” “This is a company that was founded on the values of family, entrepreneurship, and hard …

Local Woman Pursues Cake Passion in Spring City

Looking for a lucrative cake design for your next party, but don't want to travel out to see Buddy in North Jersey? Well, here's a cool cake shop right in your own backyard!

A childhood passion can be one of two things... a dream, imagined upon for years, only to be washed away by adulthood... or, it could turn into something glorious: a reality, inspiring happiness and creativity for a lifetime. One former Limerick resident and St. Pius X alumna experienced both worlds at one time of her life. Fortunately for her, the latter is proving prevalent in her life. Mindy Touhey, who now lives in East Vincent with her family, grew up with a passion for art, baking and cooking. However, with a fine skill in track and field during her teenage years, Touhey decided she would attend La Salle University on a scholarship to run track and field and pursue a career in elementary and special education. She even went to …

Produce World Offers Discount Prices Without Sacrificing Quality

There's another new business in town - this one rests in Royersford and sells fruits and veggies, offering a local produce stand feel.

On Nov. 12, 2011, Produce World, located 125 N. Lewis Rd. in Royersford had its grand opening, and ever since then, the goal has been simple: Saving the local residents' money on their fresh produce. Owner Katie Fair has been selling produce since she was 11 years old. The store operates through the hard work of about five people total, including her mother, Sharon Rohlfing, and her daughter Kierstin. The family is from Parker Ford and Limerick. "The important thing is we're local also," Rohlfing said. "Just like the people in this area that have to go to Phoenixville or Collegeville for reduced fresh produce, we did too. So, this location we knew would be good because it's good for us coming from this area." Fair said so far, so good …

Patch Awards Open Door 2011 Best Business

The awards were flowing at the end of the month. We stopped in to Open Door to hand out our next award, which was voted on by YOU!

So, we've already awarded two crucial parts to our community: Our Students (the future) and our Voices (bloggers). But, no community can truly thrive without one key element. Did the title give it away? I figured. Yes, you were right if you said Local Businesses! Therefore, we took the pleasure in holding a vote for the Best Local Business in 2011 in the Limerick, Royersford and Spring City area. We had some amazing nominations, including a historic ice cream shop, a famous breakfast shop, a cozy little coffee hangout, a brand new farm and an antique store. The voting in this competition was the absolute tightest of all of the polls. And with 708 of the 1,411 votes cast, Open Door, located on Main Street in Royersford, won. "[We're] …

Anniversary Poll - Best Local Biz of 2011

We continue our year in review by looking back at the businesses.

When I first came onboard here at LRSC Patch, I wanted to make a serious effort to make sure the community knew about its local, independently-owned businesses. Sure, the Targets and McDonalds of the world do great things for our local communities, but at the end of the day, it's the people in our community that put their hard-earned dollars into our towns, and, quite frankly, if the money's going to the big boxes, the money's leaving town. Not only that, but we've also seen some tremendous efforts to do good for Limerick, Royersford, Spring City and beyond by some of our top local shops. Farms, coffee houses, antique shops and all the like are doing their parts in our communities to make this area the best possible place to live for both …

GALLERY: Royersford Borough Has Successful First Annual Community Day

Classic cars, food, vendors and kids' games all part of the fun

Sunny skies decided to make an appearance for Saturday's first ever Royersford Community Day. The weather was a welcome change from all the rain the last two weeks and area residents happily turned out to walk up and down Main Street, visiting tables occupied by local restaurants, vendors and community organizations. Planned by Connie Lawson of Sweet Ashley's Chocolate, Annamarie Chestnut of Annamarie's Place, and Jan Christman of Christman Jewelers, along with the rest of the Royersford Business Association, Community Day is a successor to the sidewalk sales of years past. Lawson was pleased with the size of the crowd. "It's better than I hoped," she said. "I can't even begin to guess how many people are here," Chestnut said. Classic cars…

New Dental Office Looks to Transcend the Cliches

Limerick Square Shopping Center is the new home to Transcend Dental - a new local dentistry.

As of Monday, Transcend Dental is open for business to local residents in need of a complete dental service. Operated by Jared Ayes, the new dentistry looks to be a complete operation, bringing in a periodontist in Dr. Sam Khoury, a general dentist in Dr. Lorron Tokpa and a hygienist in Susan Doebling. The new office is located in Limerick Square Shopping Center near the Hallmark. Currently, the office will be open to its client base on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with plans to expand once the fresh client base grows. Doebling will only be coming in a few times a month for the time being. According Ayes, Dr. Khoury and himself have years of experience in the field and are confident in their ability …

Hillbilly BBQ: Comfort Food on Parked Wheels

Food trucks are revving up their place in the name of meals on-the-go.

For those looking to give into the savory call of comfort food on the run in the busy way of so many to-do-list musts in a day’s time, Hillbilly BBQ in Limerick answers one delectable chomp at a time. The food truck operation claimed its spot next to Kelly’s World Class Automotive near the intersection of Ridge Pike and Lewis Road this past May at the hands of JR Reinhart who resides in Lower Pottsgrove. Reinhart opened the first Hillbilly BBQ location in front of Chuck Smith’s Auto Service on Route 100 in Bechtelsville in the autumn of 2008, all in gratitude to his wife and daughter. The two picked out a small smoker as a gift for him for Father’s Day earlier that year. Reinhart decided to take his smoked samplings into his workplace at …

Go Here, Not There - An Introduction

Limerick-Royersford-Spring City Patch is proud to introduce Go Here, Not There. A new, bi-monthly segment.

Our country was founded on innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs. So, Patch wants to pay homage to our local business owners. In the coming weeks, we'll be unveiling a new series called "Go Here, Not There." Same concept as "Eat This, Not That" except with a business twist. Do you need a new couch for the living room? We'll compare the furniture that the big boys sell to some of what your lesser-known local shops have to offer. Patch would also like to introduce the muscles behind the project - SFCorkboard! The local business hub and Patch have developed a partnership to really kick this thing off. Now, twice a month (every first and third Tuesday), we will post a new segment of Go Here, Not There. We'll explain why that chainsaw from …
