Alleged Forgery and Theft Leads to Employee Arrest

A retail store employee has been charged with forging returns at the shoe store where he worked.

A retail store manager is facing multiple charges after his employers reportedly discovered he was forging returns to the store and taking cash from the register.  26-year-old Brandon Yost of Pottstown has been charged with second-degree felony forgery, theft by deception and receiving stolen property after management at the Dr. Scholl's outlet store at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets reportedly noticed discrepancies and what appeared to be falsified returns. Store management told police that they had records of 17 cash returns being made under Yost's employee login. According to the store manager, Yost would allegedly log in to the system, scan a similar item as if it had been returned, then forge the customer's signature on a return …

Hotel Guest Allegedly Breaks Gate Over Broken Wifi

Police issued a criminal mischief citation; they also handled an alleged DUI and several thefts.

A guest who allegedly broke a baby gate at the Limerick Hampton Inn reportedly did so because he was angry that the hotel's wireless internet was not functioning. Hampton Inn management called police the evening of February 2 to report that a guest had allegedly broken a baby gate in the laundry area of the hotel. The manager identified the guest as Minnesota resident Kenneth Grant Smart, who had stayed at the Limerick hotel in the past.  The hotel manager told police that Smart was upset over the broken WiFi connection. The manager offered Smart an internet cable at no charge and the use of the business center, but Smart refused both, became upset and was "yelling and screaming." The manager said he offered Smart a free room for the night…

Royersford Man Charged in Whitpain Accident

Christopher Turner, 23, of Royersford, is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident on Skippack Pike in Whitpain Township.

A Royersford man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a utility pole and fled the scene during the early morning hours of January 30.  Christopher Turner, 23, of Royersford, is charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle following the suspension of the registration, failure to have insurance, driving on roadways laned for traffic, and accidents involving damage to unattaneded vehicle or property, in connection with the crash. Police state that at 5 a.m., an officer located an unoccupied black Ford Explorer that had struck a utility pole along Skippack Pike near the Village Center. As the officer attempted to locate the driver, Turner returned to the scene with his father at 5:25 a.m…

UPDATE: Upper Providence Man Arrested for Alleged Child Rape

The man, who shared a bedroom with the 12-year-old boy, claims that the acts were consensual.

Update: Raheem Smith-Little, of Upper Providence, has been charged with rape of a child and related offenses after allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy in a bedroom that the two shared, according to the Pottstown Mercury. According to police, the child's mother attempted to enter his bedroom Jan. 13 around 2 a.m. to find that the door was locked, breaking a rule in the house that no doors are to be locked in the house. Smith-Little, 20, allegedly opened the door and said that he didn't lock it; shortly thereafter, the boy went to his mother's room "shaking and crying," saying that he was assaulted, according to police. The boy's mother transported him to Phoenixville hospital, where doctors indicated that there had been swelling and …

Police Blotter: Retail Thefts, Trespassing in Limerick

Retail stores continue to be a target for shoplifters.

Limerick Township police handled over 200 incidents in the last week, from thefts to traffic incidents to burglaries. Here are a few of the notable incidents for the week.  Theft at True Religion Police were called to the True Religion store at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets for the report of two people allegedly stealing clothing from the store.  Officers Christopher Iochum and Brian Tyler responded to the report and spoke to a True Religion employee, who said that two juvenile suspects, one male in a blue hoodie and one female wearing black, were possibly stealing jeans. Security personnel told Tyler that two suspects were seen running toward the Costco.  Iochum searched the area of the Costco and spotted the two juveniles on the hill …

Emergency Call Leads to Burglary Arrest

A Limerick man will face charges in two municipalities.

A 9-1-1 call for a possible drug overdose led to an arrest on burglary charges for a Limerick resident on Christmas Day.  Andrew Ridenour, 27, was found unresponsive and bleeding from the arm in his car outside the Needle Works Apartments by Royersford police after someone called for emergency medical help.  Ridenour allegedly had baggies on his lap containing heroin. Royersford police officer Mark Smythe, who saw the baggies in plain view, also retrieved needles from the car that had blood in them.  In searching the car, Smythe noticed a cash box and other items labeled Sunshine Cafe. Limerick Township police officer Brian Tyler, who had responded to assist Smythe, contacted other Limerick officers, who checked and saw that the Sunshine …

Limerick Residents Lose Home in Fire

The Main Drive home was destroyed in an early-morning blaze.

A Limerick home on West Ridge Pike was lost to an electrical fire on Friday, December 6, at around 4:30 in the morning.  Police and fire crews responded to the mobile home park on West Ridge Pike at 3:30am after the residents called 911 for help.  Residents James and Melanie Thees told police and fire officials that they were awakened by smoke alarms. When they checked the home, they found smoke coming from behind a living room wall.  Although the fire department arrived shortly after being dispatched, the fire had already flared up and been knocked down twice by Officers John Cassel and Shawn Pancoast. Cassel and Pancoast tried to extinguish the fire with his patrol car's extinguisher, but the fire was too extensive.  Limerick Fire …

Woman Charged with Barbell Assault Rejects Plea Deal

Donna Lynn Spencer, 45, was arrested in Phoenixville this summer.

A Spring City woman who was arrested in Phoenixville over the summer on charges that she struck a man in the head with a barbell during a robbery, turned down a plea deal in Montgomery County Court last week and will now face trial, The Mercury is reporting. According to the paper, Donna Lynn Spencer, 45, could have agreed to serve three to six years in prison on robbery charges, but turned down the offer. She remains in country jail, pending trial. Authorities were called to Royersford retirement facility Golden Age Manor on June 13 at 11:30 a.m. after police say Spencer arrived to ask her eventual victim for a small loan. When the man refused, Spencer allegedly cracked him in the head with a 25-pound dumbbell, stole $500, and fled the …

Street Race Leads to Drug Bust

A car stopped for racing on Ridge Pike contained illegal drugs.

Limerick Township police found a little more than they expected when they pulled over a beige Chevrolet Cavalier on Ridge Pike a couple of weeks ago.  Corporal Fitz Duffy was on Ridge Pike when he spotted two cars that appeared to be racing up West Ridge Pike at Sunset Road. Duffy pulled over both, and when he approached the Cavalier, he reported, there was a strong odor of marijuana.  The driver, 18-year-old Darian Leigh Holland, allegedly had three baggies of marijuana of different weights in her car, as well as cigar tubes (which are often used to roll marijuana for smoking, according to the report) and a lock box.  Police also reportedly observed green flakes consistent with marijuana leaves in multiple places in the car.
