'Red Sox' to Dominate the Broad Street Run

Philadelphia's runners are showing support for Boston with their socks.

As the nation reels from the happenings of the Boston Marathon, many will find unique ways to show support for the city that lost so much. From Facebook posts, to charitable donations, citizens are rallying to show support for Beantown. From the City of Brotherly Love, one popular way to show the love is apparently through one's socks. According to a recent Philly Mag blogger, many area sporting good stores are stocking up on red socks. Why? Because Philadelphians are preparing to show they care. Those participating in the Broad Street Run, slated for Sunday, May 5, are planning to wear red running socks to show the love for Boston. Get it? Red ... Sox ...  The city may be home to the loyalest of Phillies sports fans, but for one race, the…

GALLERY: Sox Fall to Northampton, Out of Tournament

Spring City was unable to recover from Wednesday's game against the Northampton Bombers.

The Spring City Red Sox took on the Northampton Bombers Wednesday at Ram Stadium at 11 a.m. Both teams were playing hard for their spot against Conestoga in the finals, but the Bombers came out victorious, 14-4. The Red Sox were up to bat first in the top of the first inning, and Andy Lovre-Smith was able to hit a single and bring David Gulati home for the first and only run for Spring City in the inning. Northampton was able to score three runs in the first due most in part to shortstop Matt Mindeese's triple, which brought home Tyler Cillender and Jake Nevin. Mindeese was brought home next by a Shane Coleman single. The second inning was almost identical to the first with Spring City scoring only one run and Northampton scoring three. …

Red Sox Quest for a Repeat Thwarted by Bristol

The defending state champions went down swinging on Wednesday night.

Spring City’s American Legion season came to a close on Wednesday in a stirring 16-15 loss to Bristol Post 382, who claimed its first region title in club history. But the Red Sox did not go down without a fight.  In a game that more closely resembled a heavy weight fight, the Sox and Bristol exchanged massive blows, each rising up from the mat repeatedly. It was a lethal combination of eight errors committed by Spring City, an amazing barehanded double play by Post 382 shortstop Matt Petrizzi and one base hit on a rock hard infield that sent the defending regional and state champs to the canvas for the final time in 2011. After posting six runs in the seventh inning, in which the Red Sox posted six runs with home runs from Tom Grablewski …

Red Sox Win in Losers' Bracket, Drop Championship Game

Spring City's 16-7 win over the A's, coupled with NorChester's win over Caln secures Regional berth for Spring City Post 602. However, NorChester had the final laugh on Tuesday.

Entering Monday’s losers' bracket finale, with the winner all but guaranteed a spot in next week’s Region Three Tournament, depending on the out come of the NorChester/Caln match up, Spring City Post 602 and the Athletics were in the same boat as both squads had pushed their pitching needs to the limits. In what was a slugfest, with coach Jack Sturgeon’s squad having the early momentum, the Red Sox outlasted Phoenixville by a score of 16-7 to advance to the final day of the Chester County league playoffs. Spring City, which appeared to be sleepwalking through the sweltering heat in the early innings, was awakened by the thunder of Phoenixville sophomore Ryan Yenchick’s bat. The young slugger crushed a three -run home run, which landed far …

Ryan Conway also continued his torrid hitting by going 2-for-2 reaching base four times and blasting a three run home run in the Red Sox win on Monday, and on another note the "Norchester had the final laugh" comment in the tag line was added and not part of the orginal story I submitted, I do not use ESPN isms, and would not insult Spring City Post 602 like that, thanks for reading   more ›

Season is on the Line Tonight for Red Sox After Loss to Bulldogs

Chester County League American legion baseball continue tonight.

The NorChester bats that had gone into a late-season slumber have broken out of hibernation in a big way as the playoffs have gotten underway this week. After struggling last weekend to put together a multi-run inning, the Bulldogs unleashed the hounds on Sunday at Rams Stadium, as they pounded defending state champion Spring City into a mercy rule shortened submission, 17-6. In a battle of the Chester County league’s best two heavyweight contenders, the Bulldogs scored in each of their first six at bats with the knock out punch coming in the fifth inning as David Vining and Robbie Patete both drove in two runs with a double each. That gave the Dogs a 12-3 lead following the Red Sox posting three runs to get back into the game. Third …

Red Sox Win a Pair, Face Bulldogs on Sunday

Spring City advances in the Chester County League playoffs.

It took a while for the Red Sox bats to get going, but as Connor Simmons got things started with a single to start the eighth inning, Spring City pounced. They scored six runs, giving right-hander Sean Larkin all of the run support he needed in a 6-2 win over the Kennett Colts in the opening round of the Chester County League American Legion playoffs. The big blow came when Kenny Pierson drilled a triple in the gap with the bases loaded. James Hoff was hit by a pitch and Ricky Gorrell drew a walk. Following Simmons’ base hit, Pierson scored all three and raced home as the relay throw got away, posting the Red Sox to a 4-0 lead. Sean Larkin has taken the mound and dominated the opposition in his share of big games for the Red Sox and Spring…
