An employee of the Lids store at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets was arrested and charged with felony theft, felony theft by deception and felony receiving stolen property after the store's manager discovered she was allegedly not ringing up sales in the store. Charaye Diore Carey, age 20, of Bethlehem, was employed at the Lids store in 2012. From February 2012 to August 2012, she allegedly sold hats to customers without ringing up the sales, then would pocket the money. Carey told police she had collected approximately $9,600 by selling store merchandise and had used the money for her rent and car payment. Police say the pair stole hundreds of dollars worth of items.
Limerick Township police arrested two men for retail theft on March 6 after a search of their car turned up clothes and other items - including a Yankee Candle candle warmer and multiple Disney-branded items - allegedly stolen from several Philadelphia Premium Outlet mall stores. Buddy Tanjala, of Hatfield, and Dan Prediger, of Media, were charged with felony counts of retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy to receive stolen property, and misdemeanor charges of possession of an instrument of crime. A Philadelphia man is accused of offering to sell things he allegedly stole from several Philadelphia Premium Outlet stores to other shoppers at the mall.
A man who police say was seen selling items in a Philadelphia Premium Outlets parking lot has been charged with stealing those items earlier that day. A store manager at the Coach outlet called police on March 1 to report that items had been taken from the store and that a man had been seen selling items in the parking lot near the Ann Taylor store. Police were unable to locate the suspect at that point, but asked mall security to notify them if he was seen again. An hour after the initial call, mall security identified a suspect, matching a description given by the store manager, near the mall bus stop carrying four large shopping bags. Police say two Philadelphia residents are responsible for a string of thefts.
Police have arrested and charged two Philadelphia residents in a series of thefts at the Kohl's department store on Township Line Road. According to a report in the Pottstown Mercury, Maurice McCorkle and Aidaluy Brown were arrested after police were able to identify them from video surveillance recordings. As Patch reported in September, McCorkle and Brown—at that time unidentified—were allegedly involved in thefts from the Royersford Kohl's store on Sept. 1 and 27, 2012. They are also suspected of involvement in thefts from a Kohl's at the Granite Run Mall on Sept. 10 and 22, 2012. A retail store employee has been charged with forging returns at the shoe store where he worked.
A retail store manager is facing multiple charges after his employers reportedly discovered he was forging returns to the store and taking cash from the register. 26-year-old Brandon Yost of Pottstown has been charged with second-degree felony forgery, theft by deception and receiving stolen property after management at the Dr. Scholl's outlet store at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets reportedly noticed discrepancies and what appeared to be falsified returns. Store management told police that they had records of 17 cash returns being made under Yost's employee login. A guest who allegedly broke a baby gate at the Limerick Hampton Inn reportedly did so because he was angry that the hotel's wireless internet was not functioning. Hampton Inn management called police the evening of February 2 to report that a guest had allegedly broken a baby gate in the laundry area of the hotel. The manager identified the guest as Minnesota resident Kenneth Grant Smart, who had stayed at the Limerick hotel in the past. The hotel manager told police that Smart was upset over the broken WiFi connection. A Linfield man is facing assault and harassment charges after allegedly attacking his wife with a hockey stick on Sunday evening. The man's wife told police her husband had become angry after her son used the hockey stick and got mud on it. During the ensuing argument, the man allegedly threw the hockey stick at her and struck her on the hip, then left the premises on foot. The officer who responded to the scene said the man's wife appeared to be in "severe pain." She was transported to Pottstown Memorial Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Female suspects allegedly stole jewelry and other items.
Four women were arrested in the last week after reportedly committing thefts at two local stores. Kohl's On December 6, Galina Magaziner of Royersford allegedly took eleven pieces of jewelry and three picture frames, valued at $259.07, and placed them in her purse while in the store. Loss prevention staff approached Magaziner after she reportedly bypassed the registers and attempted to leave the store. A Kohl's employee retrieved the allegedly stolen items from Magaziner's purse. Magaziner was arrested and charged with theft. Bail was set at $20,000. A second jewelry theft occurred on December 12 at the Kohl's store. Thefts from retail stores continued to be a common incident in recent police reports. Philadelphia Premium Outlets The True Religion store at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets has been targeted twice in the last few weeks. On October 23, an 18-year-old man, Nigele Lonnel Cobb, was arrested along with a 17-year-old male, and two females, 21-year-old Quawanda Sherrie Simmons and 18-year-old Shontai Whitaker, for allegedly stealing three pairs of jeans from the store. Police were called to the store by employees after the four suspects left and got into a car. An Allentown man was added to the list of defendants in 'Operation Hard Target' – a sophisticated theft ring that allegedly defrauded Target stores throughout Pennsylvania of more than $20,000.
Chance Cameron, of Allentown, was the third man arrested for his alleged involvement in a sophisticated theft ring, in which suspects are accused of affixing lower-priced UPC labels to higher-priced products to defraud Target stores and selling the products online for profit, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's office. Cameron's arrest was announced when one of the other defendants in "Operation Hard Target," Eugene Joseph Romano of Center Valley, Pa., appeared in a Montgomery County court room last week.
