Picketers Protest Dollar Tree Contractor

A local carpenters' union placed protesters outside the former Rite Aid location Wednesday.

Five Metropolitan Regional Council of Carpenters members were walking the picket line on Wednesday at the former Eckerd/Rite Aid location on the corner of Lewis Road and Ridge Pike.  The location is currently being remodeled into a Dollar Tree store, and the union members were there protesting against Camporini Contracting.  The contractor is owned by Tom Camporini and located in Warren County, NJ. Camporini is remodeling the store under contract from Dollar Tree.  The union's picket signs accuse Camporini of not honoring "carpenter area wages and standards".  Tom Camporini told Patch that the union says he isn't paying the going rate, but they don't actually know what he pays his employees.  "They want to see my books, and I refused," …

My father was in the steelworkers union his entire life. Back then, the unions actually did what they were created for; to provide workers with safe working conditions and consistent salary protection. Today the unions have evolved into a corrupt money making enterprise for the unions and their leaders. I have no problem with Bottom Dollar hiring a non-union team to do the work. Credit Union Could Fill Cumberland Farms Spot

Another empty storefront looks like it will be saved in Royersford. Council reports on this and more.

According to Royersford Borough Manager Mike Leonard at Tuesday night's borough council meeting, a credit union could be moving in to the spot formerly occupied by Cumberland Farms on the corner of N. Lewis Road and Main Street. As of this week, the gas tanks have been taken out and a construction fence has been erected on the site. The conversation came up before council during a discussion on the opening of the new Rite Aid on the opposite corner. Leonard reported that will open on June 21 with a 10:00 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony. Councilman John Kring asked about the construction at the former Cumberland Farms property to which Leonard responded the tanks were being taken out in favor of putting a drive-thru window at the possible …
