Area animal shelters are in need of worn linens.
Look in your linen closet and you're likely to find torn towels, blankets, and sheets that may wind up in the trash, or as rags. Before you toss the old stuff, you may want to consider donating them to your local animal shelter to help thousands of dogs and cats. Sadly, many pets that go to shelters and rescues are scared in their new surroundings, and they are forced to sleep on cold cement floors since warm bedding isn't usually in the budget. Shelters can actually go through thousands of blankets and towels each month, and depend on donations to help provide the animals with warmth during the colder months. You can help. There are locations throughout the Delaware Valley that are currently accepting towels, blankets, and sheets. Click…

It isn't just raining cats and dogs at local shelters.
With locations in Abington, Perkiomenville and Conshohocken, the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) offers much more than your basic cat and dog. The shelters also offer a variety of small pets, such as birds, mice and rats. Though Easter is over, the facilities are each holding fluffy bunny rabbits, which are up for adoption. Take a look at the gallery above to see some of the rabbits available for adoption. Those that wish to adopt, must come to the facility in person. The adopter must agree to a contract that includes three main promises: Fees to adopt a rabbit are only $5. For more on the three locations operated in the county, see the listings below For more information on available animals, …

Philanthropic efforts continue at the Limerick bank.
Penn Liberty Bank in Limerick is hosting a pet food and supply drive to benefit the Montgomery County SPCA. Food, toys, blankets, towels, and other pet supplies are welcome according to Assistant Branch Manager April Allen, who is leading the way for this event. Allen said she and the volunteers are collecting now through May 31. Donors can drop supplies off at the branch, located 543 N. Lewis Rd. between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday. People are welcome to drop off at other branch locations, as well. Allen is a pet lover by heart, so it was an easy decision to head this one up. "I'm a sucker for animals," she said. "I don't have any children, so I have a bunch of animals and they are pretty much like …

We wrap up our weekly pet of the week by letting you know what happened to these furry friends!
The Perkiomenville SPCA has not had as much success in finding homes for pets since we checked in on our last batch of pups and kitties. We inquired about 13 of our featured pets. Out of those 13, the SPCA found homes for seven of them. In light of that, we're giving the SPCA, located at 1059 Sweisford Rd. in Perkiomenville, a chance to feature more animals, and would like to let you know where to find them if you're looking for a new pet. We're going to be creating a topic page for all adoptable pets for fans of animals to see. Just scroll over "Topics" at the top of the page and you can find it there. Make sure you check out our other topics, like East Vincent Township news! That topic will be rolled out within the next week. You will …
