Outlets Owner Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Simon Property Group offers college money for local students.

The Limerick Post reported today that Simon Property Group, Inc. the owner of the Philadelphia Premium Outlets, is offering $1 million in college scholarships to students that live within 50 miles of a Simon mall.  The Simon Youth Foundation, a non-profit division of the management company, offers scholarship money for at-risk students who plan to attend an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.  Students can win a one-time, $1,400 scholarship. One student out of all the applicants will also win an "Award of Excellence", which is a $2,500 scholarship renewable for up to three years. Scholarship recipients are evaluated on academic performance, leadership skills, school and community activities, and financial need. …

SF Grad Training for Survey Engineering Career

Alumni news from Spring-Ford High School.

Spring-Ford graduate Ryan White has gone back to school to train for a lucrative survey engineering field. He had four years of experience in land surveying locally, but decided to attend Penn State University Wilkes-Barre for higher education. White also recently received a $2,500 scholarship from the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors for his work at Penn State. White was interviewed briefly for an article in the Times Leader: Third-year student Ryan White saw an opportunity to enter a field able to boast relatively sound job security – even in a poor economy. However, having worked as a surveyor for almost four years, White lacked the license needed to become a decision-maker in the field. A surveying engineer earns between $70,000 …

Track's O'Such Officially Commits to Duquesne

Track & Field/Cross Country Runner Joe O'Such commits to Duquesne University

A young man by the name of Joe O'Such, a freshman, decided to go out for ninth grade baseball a short time ago. Four years later, a senior now, O'Such has decided to sign a commitment to run both track and field and cross country at Duquesne University. O'Such has received an athletic and academic scholarship to attend and will enter into a prestigious nursing program, which will be his major area of study. "I think he’s changed a lot since his freshman year," said his winter track head coach Danielle Stauffer. "He came in unsuspecting. The dedication he’s displayed over the years. Spaghetti Fest 2012 to Award 4 Scholarships

This year's event will take place at the end of March and will benefit both Spring-Ford and Pope John Paul II students.

For the past 11 years, the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce has worked in cooperation with the Spring-Ford Area School District to put on Spaghetti Fest - a community fundraiser dinner that works in tandem with the school's spring play, to raise money for scholarships to area students. In the past, two Spring-Ford students would receive $1,000 scholarships from the event. However, with Pope John Paul II coming to town in the 2010-11 school year, the Chamber decided to give two more students the opportunity - now awarding two students from Spring-Ford and two students from PJPII $1,000 scholarships. The event will take place on March 30 at Spring-Ford High School's cafeteria from 5-8 p.m. Cost to attend is $7 for adults and $5 for children …
