Alleged Dog Killer Charged With Animal Cruelty, Endangerment

DA: Gabriel Pilotti had 'no justification' for shooting his neighbors' 'beloved pets' on Feb. 12.

A West Vincent Township man has been charged in a Feb. 12 incident that resulted in the deaths of an area family's two pet dogs. Police say Gabriel Pilotti, 72, admitted shooting "Argus" and "Fiona," Bernese Mountain Dogs belonging to the family of one of his neighbors, Mary Bock, because he discovered them chasing sheep inside an enclosed pasture on his property. Bock told police that the dogs had escaped from her yard. According to police, Pilotti told them during interviews on Feb. 12 and Feb. 21 that he first saw the dogs "chasing his sheep" from his kitchen window. He then retrieved a shotgun and ammunition from his garage and went outside to the edge of the sheep enclosure. "Argus," the male dog, approached Pilotti at a trot, …

If your kids were to go around harassing injuring, or killing cattle/sheep would it be ok for your neighbor to shoot them? I'm just asking because if he warned you it would be ok right? According to your logic it would be...........   more ›

How To Survive A Mass Shooting

If you can run, run. If you can't run, hide. If you have to, fight.

The recent mass shooting incidents at Connecticut elementary school, a Colorado movie theater, and a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, among other places, have made a once-unlikely question relevant: What should you do if someone comes into your workplace, school, or public venue and starts randomly shooting at people? The three-part answer, according to the Department of Homeland Security, is Run, Hide, Fight. If you can get out of the building or the vicinity of the shooter, do so. If you can't, hide. If you can't run or hide, as a last resort, resolve to incapacitate the shooter through any means necessary. The video above, produced last summer by the City of Houston (Tx.) Mayor's Office, was shared by the Limerick Township Police Department on…

Erin, on average only 50 people /year are hit by lightening. That you know multiple people is newsworthy indeed. I can't find a average for mass-shooting/year, but just looking at only the last 20 years, it must be a very small number.   more ›

State Legislature Passes 'Brad Fox Law'

The law does not implement new restrictions on firearm sales or purchases.

A Brad Fox Law is headed for Gov. Tom Corbett's desk, though it's perhaps not the one some gun control advocates might hope for. House Bill 898, which imposes a mandatory minimum five-year sentence for the second and subsequent violations of the provisions of state law governing the sale of firearms, was unanimously passed by the state Senate on Wednesday. The law also permanently revokes any license to sell, import, or manufacture firearms from such violators. The bill, now known as the "Brad Fox Law," was passed by the state House in April 2011. State Representative Marcy Toepel (R-147), who introduced the bill, said it had taken on "new significance" in the wake of Fox's murder last month. Fox's apparent killer, Andrew Thomas, who was …

Brad was family but I have to agree with Hale. Brad was a Marine who fought for these same rights that many people now want to revoke in his name. How does that honor his memory? What I would like to see is the straw purchasers receiving identical punishment as the perpetrators of the crimes they armed unlawfully the first time around, none of this 'second offense' nonsense.   more ›

Mourning Officer Bradley Fox [PHOTOS]

Residents and law enforcement joined in ushering slain Plymouth Police Officer Bradley Fox on his final journey.

The body of slain Plymouth Police Officer Bradley Fox was transfered to Boyd-Horrox Funeral Home on Germantown Pike in East Norriton today via a procession of police and emergency vehicles.  Patch reader Kathy Walsh was on hand to photograph several legs of the procession and agreed to share her photos. We're asking other readers to share their photos from any memorials for Officer Fox. This tragedy has touched many of us and as much as we may want to, we can't all attend every ceremony. With our readers help, maybe we can all feel a little closer to the rest of the community who are grieving the loss of a good man.  Log into your Patch account and click on the "Upload Photos and Videos" button to add your own images and video.

Philadelphia Sikh Society Reacts to Wisconsin Shooting

After a deadly shooting at a Wisconsin Sikh Temple Sunday morning, the greater Philadelphia Sikh community calls for more gun control and cultural understanding.

This weekend, over 2,000 members of the Sikh community from the Philadelphia area and beyond came to Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill to participate in the Philadelphia Sikh Society’s (PSS) 12th annual Sikh Games of Philadelphia. According to Narinder Singh, secretary of the PSS, which is located in Millbourne, Delaware County, the festive two-day event draws members of the Sikh community from as far away as New York and Maryland. The Aug. 5 event at Bonner had participants of all ages playing volleyball, soccer, wrestling, races and the traditional "Kabbaddee," a tag-game similar to Jailbreak. "Our reason is to memorialize the Sikh martyrs," Dharam Singh Khalsa, a PSS founding member, said. He explained that the annual sporting…

SC Chief Addresses Public on Recent Shots Fired

A statement from Spring City Police Chief Art Brown

With the recent shots fired in East Vincent Township, we asked Spring City Police Chief Art Brown for some tips or warnings to send out to the community. He took the opportunity to address the public on Wednesday afternoon: "In light of that recent shooting in East Vicent," Brown said. "I want to remind the community that they are the eyes and ears of the community. So, when they see or hear something suspicious, they should call us and let us check it out. We can't be everwhere, so we depend on some help from our citizens." There have been no further developments on the case to date.
