We are asking the community its opinion on empty stores. Here's your chance to express your views.
This week we'll head to a strip mall in Limerick and ask your opinion on what new and exciting business you'd like to see in our area. Familiarize yourself with Ridge Pike in Limerick. Do you know where Dunkin Donuts is? How about Franklin's? Make that right onto Kugler Road and see the shopping center behind it. That is where this week's empty storefront rests. This is the old "Time 2 Party" location. The shop sits between Bravo Pizza and Blinds 48. Looking inside the windows of the shop, I saw a big empty space with a colorful floor. You know what that means? A lot of potential for any kind of store. You can literally put anything in here - the sky is the limit. So let your imagination run wild, folks! I was thinking this might be a good…

We are asking the community its opinion on empty stores. Here's your chance to express your views.
There has been an obvious outcry in the area for a wider variety of grocery stores. From Shop Rite to Bottom Dollar (last week's suggestion for the old Rite Aid in Limerick) to the world-famous Trader Joe's, comments have poured in with that very desire. This week, we will take a look at a shopping center that already has a grocery store... We're in Limerick where the Giant, Kohl's and Marshall's sit and we want to know what you want to see in the old Blockbuster space! The Blockbuster closed last summer and has sat vacant ever since. With your regular grocery and department stores already occupying the immediate area, and lots of fast food and chain restaurants right down the road, we want to know what you think fits best in this space. …

Last week, we fielded your thoughts on the old Acme location on Ridge Pike. Many people saw the need for a Trader Joe's, but we also heard a few requests for Shop Rite and even a Dave and Busters! This week, we're staying on Ridge Pike and taking a look at the old Rite Aid location on the corner of N. Lewis Road and Ridge. See the above photo to refresh your memory. The store has sat vacant for quite some time, and in my personal opinion, it's pretty good real estate. Looking at the surrounding area, across the road, you'll see Kelly's WorldClass Automotive and Hillbilly BBQ. Perpendicular, we have Rascal's Fitness, Piazza Presto, and a Chinese takeout. So, what makes the most sense over here? Does a restaurant make sense? It will provide …

Dia Doce, a Spring City-based mobile cupcake business recently won Cupcake Wars and is now celebrating one year in business.
Dia Doce (Portuguese for "Sweet Day"), a mobile cupcake business that serves the greater Chester and Montgomery County area was a recent winner of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network. After reaching that milestone, the family-run business celebrates another: its one-year anniversary on April 29. The story of the business is an interesting one. "I grew up in this area and moved back here about a year and a half ago from New York City to start the business," said owner Thais Da Silva. "The whole concept behind the business is we don’t have a storefront. We have a mobile storefront, I should say. We have a truck and go to a different location every day of the week." Da Silva grew up in Glenmoore and studied fashion design in college. She spent a…
Board discusses home-business approval for local company, budget information
Limerick's Board of Supervisors gave the go-ahead to Sweet Ashley's Chocolate to move their production from Spring City to a home on Lewis Road at Tuesday's meeting. Sweet Ashley's owners Connie and Robert Lawson came before the board during a public hearing. The Lawsons plan on purchasing a home on Lewis Road and moving production there. Nothing will change with respect to their storefront location on Main Street in Royersford. Previously, the home was a photography studio, and the Lawsons will convert the studio space into a kitchen. There was a list of conditions attached to the agreement, including conditions preventing the Lawsons from using the home as a retail shop or placing signage on the property. However, board members Thomas …

Well, the moment has finally arrived. The moment that you've all been seemingly waiting for. Is it obvious? See the above photo. Residents, citizens and other interested parties have been begging for a Trader Joe's, possibly in this location, or basically anywhere it will fit. So, for this week's segment, we take a look at the old Limerick Acme located off of Ridge Pike. The store has been closed for about a year now with no major signs of activity. What makes this an appealing spot for a Trader Joe's? The size of the store? The fact that it can handle another grocery outlet? Is another type of store more appropriate here? What would you like to see go here? Tell us what you think and why. I have a feeling this is going to be a well-…

A lengthy discussion on a new and old ordinance.
The Royersford Borough Council met for its regular meeting on April 24, and local business owners were in attendance with issues regarding the Knox Box Ordinance. The ordinance states that commercial properties in the borough must have a Knox Box for ease of access for emergency responders. A Knox Box sits outside of a building and has the keys to the building's main doors. It is operated by a master key, which is held by police and fire responders. The ordinance has been in existence since 2010; however, a new ordinance was passed early in 2012 by council that specifically outlined fines to be levied if businesses chose not to have a Knox Box. Public Safety Committee Chair Bruce Buckwalter reported the committee met in early April and …

We continue this week with our public opinion segment on empty storefronts. We're heading back to downtown Royersford, where we once visited the G.T. McKissic & Sons location. There is yet another empty storefront right next door. This one is the old hardware store. Our readers had an interesting take on the location next door. Some wanted to see a bakery, while others hoped for a book store. Even further, others suggested a Starbucks or an Internet cafe. To compliment those options, what do you want to see go in this spot? If a bakery, bookstore, Starbucks or Internet cafe is next door, is there a good neighbor to fit at the old hardware store? Or does Royersford need the return of its own little hardware shop? Not many people have …

The local Chinese restaurant expands again.
The following was posted by Michael Klein on Philly.com: Han Dynasty, the rapidly growing Sichuan empire from Han Chiang (Royersford, Exton. Old City, Manayunk), will grow to a fifth location later this spring. It's taking over the former Midatlantic at 3711 Market St., in the Science Center. (The center confirms that the lease was signed today.) Chiang's partner Kevin Huang, who said minor cosmetic work will be done, says Washington, D.C., is their next stop. For the full story, click here. Editor's Note: The Royersford location is at 70 Buckwalter Rd. in the Limerick Square Shopping Center. Please visit our directory listing here for more information.

The owner indicated that the opening of his new location may be delayed because "trade-union representatives (in Phila) paid him a visit and "suggested" that he dismiss his work crew." I hope he hangs in there and does not give in to Phila corruption. Apparently the trade union cannot obtain honest work so they then resort to bullying. What is this 1928???   more ›

We continue this week with our public opinion segment on empty storefronts. We're heading back over to the Amelia's Shopping Center, where we once visited the old Chic Snyder's spot. There is yet another empty storefront in this shopping center. This one is closer to the Dollar Store. I'm not really sure what would fit here, as the unit is not quite as "noticible" as ones we've featured in the past. The sign on the building says it is 2,075 square feet. The possibilities could be endless with your thoughts! What do you want to see go here? A lot of people have suggested the need for a new local bakery in the past, but what about a specialty butcher of sorts? Or, how about a sushi takeout place? I've also heard requests for a Saladworks in …

Because of the location, it would have to be something that could grow based on reputation rather than visibility. Better signage for that entire mall wouldn't hurt either. It is a large space so it could be split to be a butch/bakery or one of those with a deli or cafe attached. This would be a great addition to the mall that already has a fresh fruit and veggie place, wine & spirits and a bulk …   more ›

Space is small, speaking as someone who has owned a restaurant. Could work as a small internet cafe or bagel/pastry shop.   more ›
