The team played in the Beachbound I Classic Championship on April 27 and 28.
The Jaguars AAU 6th grade boys basketball team won the Beachbound I Classic Championship in Ocean City, MD on April 27 and 28. In the championship game, the Jaguars defeated the 6th Man Warriors from Washington, DC by a score of 33-26 in a defensive battle. "With 84 teams in the tournament, some of the finest talent on the East Coast is showcased," commented Walt Stevenson, Executive Director of the Tournament. "Congratulations to our champions, the Jaguars from Pennsylvania, for demonstrating their skill and character on the court." While pharmacies run short, the North Penn VNA serves communities in the Spring-Ford area.
As the nation's pharmacies start to run short on the proper flu vaccine, those in the Spring-Ford area have hope. According to an article in the Lansdale Reporter, the North Penn Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) has a bountiful supply of the vaccine and is offering them to the public. The zip codes of Schwenksville, which includes residents of Limerick Township, and Oaks are serviced by the North Penn VNA. "According to VNA spokesperson Theresa Humphreys, as of Wednesday morning the VNA still had 'several hundred flu shots available for the community,'" said the article. Tonight marks a special night for Pottstown's Steel River Playhouse. At 5:30 p.m., the theater, formerly known as the Tri-County Performing Arts Center, will be rededicated with a grand dedication and red carpet ceremony, followed by a VIP reception and then a performance of Hairspray by the local players. Playing a small part in the dedication will be Limerick's own Lisa Waltz. Lisa is the daughter of the Waltz family, who many associate with golf, turf and fireworks. Souderton's Vantage Academy recently held an awards ceremony. Spring-Ford Area School District has some students at the alternative school.
Jennifer Connor of The Souderton Independent recently covered an awards ceremony in Telford for Souderton's Vantage Academy, a private alternative school, which allows students that struggle with the public school environment to thrive. The ceremony was held on June 6 at Indian Valley Country Club. Connor said while the Souderton School District sends a large majority the academy's students, there are also students from Boyertown, Spring-Ford and Upper Perkiomen. This year, according to Connor, there were 85 students at the school. Local autism support group organizes Autism Walk, sponsored by Autism Speaks.
The A Team, an autism support group for parents of autistic children operating in the Spring-Ford Area, will hold an organizational meeting for its April 6, 2013 Local Autism Speaks Autism Walk. The meeting will be held on June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Freedom Valley YMCA at Spring Valley on 19 West Linfield-Trappe Road in Limerick. According to A Team founder Gloria Vollert, everyone is invited to attend. "We need every position for this walk to be successful," Vollert said. "Chairpersons and committee members. Spring-Ford School District's Middle School-7th Grade Center continues Phase Two of a Clay Mono Print with renowned artist.
The following release was submitted by Robyn Burckhardt, Coordinator of Arts Alive! at Spring-Ford: Royersford – Some very talented seventh grade art students at The Middle School have designed and completed a series of 4 prints to present to the Spring-Ford community. The students have been working with their art teacher, Mr. Brent Kissel and professional Chester County clay artist, Mitch Lyons. This project will reflect the students’ concepts of color and designs surrounding THE FOUR SEASONS. Each print measures 3 ft x 5 ft and will be displayed in the front lobby of the school on Lewis Road. Mr. Lyons invented the process of Clay Mono Printing-rolling color onto a clay “plate”. The game was competitive and filled with a number of quality plays on both sides, the weather turned out clear after some early afternoon rain and the crowd was good and large for a first endeavor.
