A recap of Tuesday night's board of education meeting

The Spring-Ford Area School District met for a workshop meeting on Tuesday night at Spring-Ford High School. Among the main topics discussed were the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center and an action item on a bond series. Board member Ed Dressler gave a report of the Joint Operating Committee meeting that was held at the Western Center on Jan. 9. He said the first part of meeting dealt with election of officers. William Scott was renominated to be president and ran unopposed. The second part, Dressler said, contained thoughts from Director Joe Greb, who presented news about the school. Evans Elementary School Receives $2,000 Grant from Target

The grant supports a school-wide literacy program.

The following press release comes courtesy of Jess Lester, representing the Spring-Ford Area School District. LIMERICK - Evans Elementary School has been awarded a $2,000 grant from Target to support its Evans R.E.A.D.S (Reading, Exploring and Discovering Stories) program, a literacy effort designed to encourage all children to read at school and at home with their families. Evans R.E.A.D.S. is a school-wide initiative that engages every student in grades K-4 through the reading of the same book. Each Evans teacher, over a specific period of time during the school year, will read the same book to his or her classroom. Students will be engaged in the effort through morning announcements, which will include questions about the book being …

The fourth annual National Night Out was held Tuesday night at Brown Street Neighborhood Park in Spring City.

The fourth annual National Night Out was held Tuesday night at Brown Street Neighborhood Park in Spring City. Sponsored locally by the Spring City Lions Club, in cooperation with Target, the national sponsor, National Night Out is a community event that takes place in communities across the country that raises awareness toward the prevention of crime and drugs, as well as gives neighbors a chance to get together and meet. Every year, a certain number of communities are chosen as award recipients for extraordinary efforts toward National Night Out. Last year, out of 5,000 communities, Spring City was one of only 20 communities to win that award. State Senator Andy Dinniman made an appearance this year and really enjoyed the turnout that …

Spring City To Host Fourth Annual National Night Out

Royersford isn't the only area municipality to celebrate the drug/crime awareness night. Spring City will also play host to the national event.

Spring City will host its National Night Out on Aug. 2 from 5-8 p.m. The event is sponsored by The Spring City Lions Club in cooperation with Target and will be held at Brown Street Park. Festivities include rock climbing, bounce and slide, music by The Rockin' Rotarians and The Reluctants, free swimming at the pool, tattoos and DNA kits for kids, the Lowes craft table, and local fire and emergency squads will be on hand. Special guests attending are Senator Andy Dinniman and McGruff. Power Outage Strikes Shopping Center

Giant, AC Moore and Target are of the confirmed stores that were affected by Monday's outage.

The Giant, Target and AC Moore stores in Limerick were among the businesses affected by a multi-hour power outage that occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday. According to PECO, a tree fell on a wire at the aforementioned time and caused power to go out in all three stores. Other stores in the shopping center were not confirmed as affected by the outage. Giant Spokesperson and Manager of Public and Community Relations Chris Brand said that the outage was all cleared up by 5:45 p.m. He said the company’s strict protocol helped ensure customer safety and the prevention of shrink, or spoiled food. “The first thing we do is we ensure the safety of all the customers throughout the building and all of the associates,” Brand said. “We …
