U.S. Rep. Alyson Schwartz spoke in Upper Darby Friday.
Upper Darby's Drexelbrook played host to the Delaware County Democratic Committee’s annual spring dinner Friday. U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-13, of Montgomery County, who had announced she'd entered the 2014 gubernatorial race, was one of the featured guests. According to the Delco Times, Schwartz spoke of her father who'd served in the Korean War. "Her first bill, which she said was signed into law by former president George W. Bush, provided tax credits to businesses that hire unemployed veterans," said the Times article. "She also was a driving force behind the Pennsylvania Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)." “And today, 11 million children have health insurance because of the work we started here in Pennsylvania,” she said …
A new website has many guessing at Bruce Castor's intent come the 2014 Pennsylvania governor race.
He's got a spiffy new site, and it surely doesn't seem to just be about Montgomery County. Current Republican Minority Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor has launched a new website, brucecastor.com, and from its logo of the state of Pennsylvania to its contents encompassing every topic from his biography to a donation contribution page, the site has many guessing it may be one of the first steps toward a candidacy in the 2014 governor race. Patch began reporting about the speculations of possible candidacy back in December of 2012 with a report outlining his history. Should Castor make a run at the ticket, it would not be the first time he's competed against current Gov. Tom Corbett. "Corbett and Castor have a storied history, …

Jack I would vote for for anyone before I would ever for for Allyson Schwartz. John Street, Milton Street, Man on the Street, Hugo Chavez (in or out of his current residence) The idiots on this board should be campaigning for Corbett so in 6 years they can get their new Governess Kathleen Kane. It is pretty transparent what she in angling for. With a pocket full of viagra, Bill Clinton will be …   more ›
The local rep tells press 'It's my intention' to run in the 2014 race.
She admitted it. Allyson Schwartz told the Philadelphia Daily News "It is my intention" to run for governor against incumbent Gov. Tom Corbett. After months of speculating such, it is nearing the stages of being totally official. Schwartz, who currently serves as the U.S. Representative for the 13th District, which encompasses much of Montgomery County, said she plans to throw her hat into the ring for the 2014 race. The rep told USA Today that she is dissappointed in Corbett's term due to the "lack of leadership, vision and effectiveness of this governor." As Patch reported in February, the decision may make the county a hotbed for the future governor's race. As it stands, Bruce Castor, who serves as the minority Republican commissioner …

Ms Schwartz, I wish I could say something constructive on your behalf and maybe I should just stop right there. But seriously, you should consider reversing your intent to run for the office of Gov. of the Great Keystone State. Your credentials show me nothing that would cause me to cast a vote in your favor. For sure there are more qualified persons that would do justice to the office.   more ›
The former 7th district Congressman would not rule out a challenge to Republican incumbent Tom Corbett. He would join a crowded field.
Former Congressman Joe Sestak has not closed the door on a run for the Pa. governor's office in 2014. Sestak, who did not seek re-election to his 7th District seat in 2010, told the Delaware County Times on Tuesday that he wants to run for public office again, but would not be more specific. If Sestak does throw his hat in the ring for next year's Democratic primary, he could be joining a crowded field. 13th District Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, who has not publicly declared her candidacy but is said to be leaning towards a run, is widely regarded as the leading Democratic challenger to Republican incumbent Governor Tom Corbett, who has been plagued by weak polls and job approval ratings. State Treasurer Rob McCord is atop the pile of …

Two politicians from the county may face-off in a race for the state's seat.
Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet, but with phrases like "80 percent sure" and "pragmatism and practicality" being floated around, it is possible that Montgomery County may be home to a hot race in the 2014 Pennsylvania governor's race. Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor has not put a percentage on his desire to enter the race, but has said he is keeping a close eye on the current governor, Tom Corbett's actions in the second half of his term. "I'm not going to run just to make a splash. I want Pennsylvania to go down the right path," Castor said in an interview with Pennsylvania Cable Network, covered by Patch in January. "I want Pennsylvania to be a conservative state, but with pragmatism and practicality. I don't see …

Kathleen Kane says governor's plan infringes on the Legislature's power to make policy decisions.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane rejected Gov. Tom Corbett's plan to privatize the Pennsylvania lottery system. Corbett, who had pitched in idea to allow a British lottery firm to run the state's successful lotto, said he was "disappointed. Calling the plan "illegal," according to philly.com, Kane's announcement shocked many. "[The announcement] may as well have been a declaration of political war," said the article on philly.com. Despite political reprecussions, Kane stood by her statement. "It is our duty to defend and protect the Constitution of our Commonwealth and that is what our office has done by declining this contract," said Kane, reading a statement to reporters at her office, according to StandardSpeaker.com. "She …

Castor said he began considering a run for governor after the fall elections. He says his campaign against Corbett would not be a 'grudge match.'
Bruce Castor, the minority Republican member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, started "sticking his toe" in the waters of the 2014 race for Pennsylvania governor after the fall elections. "Now," Castor said in a video interview with Pennsylvania Cable Network, "it's more up to the ankles." Castor said he saw the defeat of a slate of candidates who he said were largely selected by Corbett as a referendum on the Governor's platform. "The Governor has expended his political capital, but not on the things that we care about or the things that he campaigned on," Castor said, citing pension reform, property tax reform, and right-to-work legislation as examples. Castor said the national economic recovery has proceeded "three times…

There's a common saying that many have used to point out why the right wing tends to outmaneuver and defeat the left wing-Leftists look for traitors, while conservatives look for converts. All this talk of RINO's gives me the impression that elements within the right wing of the US is looking for traitors more than converts at the current moment.   more ›
Law imposes mandatory minimum sentence for second time "straw purchasers."
Before Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett ceremonially signed the "Brad Fox" bill into law Friday, he first made a stop to understand the full weight of its importance. The governor entered an industrial section of Plymouth Township, retracing the route of a high-speed pursuit that took place not four months ago, and turned a corner to walk parallel with the county bike trail. A few hundred feet away he came across a collection of hockey sticks and hockey pucks, flowers and flags, memorializing the spot where Plymouth Police Officer Bradley Fox drew his final breath. The governor then met with law enforcement and with Fox's family, including wife Lynsay, her belly healthy and round with Brad, Jr., less than two months away from his …

Previously ran against Corbett in 2004 Pa. Attorney General primary
Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor could challenge Pa. Governor Tom Corbett in 2014, PoliticsPA reports. The 51-year-old former district attorney and Lower Salford resident is the minority Republican on the county's 3-person executive and legislative board, alongside Democrats Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards. Castor told the political news website that he believes Corbett is "vulnerable" to a reelection challenge. Corbett and Castor have a storied history, including a 2004 Republican primary race for Attorney General. The Republican State Committee endorsed Corbett for the post and Castor ran a grassroots campaign throughout the state, losing the nomination by five points. Castor has served on the Board of Commissioners since …
