A 'Sunsational' Week Ahead

After raining on our parade on several days last week, Mother nature has a much more mundane pattern in store this week.

Arguably the most wonderful time of the year is upon us in the weather world.  With apologies to Andy Williams, I think September and October are much more "wonderful" since days are still mild, humidity is low, and one can fully enjoy the weather without sweating or freezing. This week marks the first of those weeks, thanks to a front on Saturday that blew through the region and pushed the tropical humidity out of here. Instead of dew points in the 70s, high temperatures will be in the 70s for both Monday and Tuesday. With dew points much lower, nighttime temperatures will also drop off quite a bit. Expect 40s in the offing for the burbs on Monday and Tuesday nights. The upcoming couple of days will be the coolest we've been since June …

5 Things to Know About Christmas

Christmas time is here... Happiness and cheer!

Although today marks Christmas Day in many homes, it also means it's the beginning of the end of the holiday season. Shops will go back to normal business by the New Year and, of course, we won't be hearing many carols soon enough. So, let's keep the spirit alive! Here is a very special holiday version of 5 Things for all of you Christmas-celebrators out there. 1. Not So White? According to local weatherman Tom Thunstrom's weekly weather report this week, the last time it was a no-snow Christmas Day was 2007. 2. No celebration here... Notable countries in which Christmas is not a formal public holiday include: China, (excepting Hong Kong and Macao), Japan, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Thailand, Nepal, Iran, Turkey and North Korea. A Cool, Probably Brown Christmas

Winter is here! Outside of a midweek warmup, temperatures will be much more typical of December around the region as we work towards Christmas.

We have taken babysteps this month toward winter chill. However, Saturday's flurries and Sunday's chilled sunshine have brought a legitimate wintery feel to the area and, for the first time in a while, it definitely feels like winter's upon us. The week ahead will feature more of the same as last week. Temperatures that start and end chilled, but moderate midweek ahead of a storm system. Such is the theme of the last couple of weeks and the likely theme of the next couple of weeks. A weak cool front will cross the region early Tuesday, stalling out and perhaps bringing a sprinkle to the region as it crosses. The front will then lift back north as a warm front for Wednesday, bringing occasional showers to the region as low pressure lifts …

Roller Coaster Temperatures Ahead This Week

Starting and ending cold, with another shot of mild and showery weather in between, is the theme of the coming week's weather.

The last couple of mornings have been a chilly reminder that winter is starting to settle in. For those thinking the snowy and nonstop cold of the past couple of winters is the "norm" around these parts, simply look past those winters to the brown landscape, occasionally dotted by snow, and yo-yo temperatures that would warm and melt your snow - the kind of weather we're accustomed to more often than not each winter. That's more like it, and more like the weather of the coming week, except there's no snow on the ground here to start. At least we have typical December temperatures (40s for highs, 20s for lows). In between a cool start and a colder finish (we have a pretty good shot of avoiding 40 next Saturday), a midweek warmup will …

Feeling Like Christmas By Week's End

After a rather mild past month, temperatures will take another drop later this week as we continue our steps down into winter chill.

Temperatures took a step down this week – kind of hard not to when we were in the low-70s just a week ago. We dropped down to a couple of days in the 40s and 50s for highs – much more typical for early December, but with bright sunshine, the weather at the end of last week has been rather nice. A slow-moving cold front will ease east over the next few days, with warmth out ahead of the front bubbling temperatures into the 60’s for the start of this week. The front will need the help of three disturbances to push the front on through, with each of the three bringing a shot of rain between the Monday night into Tuesday morning timeframe through Thursday. Rainfall with the first two shots will be modest and intermittent – enough to dampen …

Bark for Life Dog Wash Beats Out the Storm

Penn Liberty Bank hosted a Bark for Life dog wash fundraiser on Saturday.

Bark for Life volunteers, Penn Liberty Bank staff and troops from Troop 529 out of Gibraltar, Pa. all volunteered their time to help the Bark for Life Dog Wash at Penn Liberty Bank in Limerick Saturday, despite the oncoming inclement weather. Bark for Life is a Relay for Life fundraising event that recognizes dogs throughout the community. All of the proceeds made at any Bark for Life event are given to the Relay for Life, which in turn benefits the American Cancer Society. "I find this really rewarding," said Joann Smith, Bark for Life Volunteer. "It just does so much good for people, and everyone knows someone who has had cancer. [Dogs] give us love and ask for nothing in return." Bark for Life fundraisers give the community a chance to …
