SF Super Kisses Pig, Band Needs New Uniforms

Spring-Ford Superintendent David Goodin gave a monthly report at a recent school board meeting.

Spring-Ford Superintendent David Goodin gave his monthly report at Tuesday's board of education meeting. In it, he discussed the Spring-Ford band, the arts program and various banquets. But first, Goodin gave a shout out to the special education department for the improvements made on "least restrictive environment" and "graduation dropout rate" categories, which the district was on a warning list for. Goodin then highlighted various programs and shows he recently got to attend. The Senior Academic Banquet was held at the high school. Goodin said it was a nice affair and very well organized. Students that received honors had to maintain a 95 percent grade point average throughout their four years in the high school. He also attended the …

UP Police Chief: Officers Followed Procedure

A followup to a recent announcement made by one of our readers.

One week ago, reader Teresa Pratt posted an announcement on Patch thanking a Good Samaritan for helping her son, who was found unconscious at the wheel after a car accident in Upper Providence Township. Pratt said she hadn't heard from her son, so she began making calls and eventually found out he was at Phoenixville Hospital. "I find it extremely unfortunate that the police did not have the human decency to call us," Pratt wrote. "Especially because the registration and insurance is under our name. You would think they would care a little more, but obviously it wasn't in their job description." Upper Providence Police Chief Donald Sherid was on vacation last week, but returned an email to Patch on Tuesday morning. He issued the following …

I have to agree with Mark. At the age of 24, unless the kid is seriously injured there is no need to contact the parents. If he really was alert then why would the police need to contact the parents? That's the problem with most of these kids today, 24 years old and still being coddled by mommy and daddy. But I do have to agree that the UP police do seem to go overboard in the traffic enforcement…   more ›

Fire Marshal: Dale Dr. Fire Deemed Accidental

A note from the Upper Providence Fire Marshal about last week's fire

Police and fire crews spent about two hours at the scene of a house fire on Dale Drive in Upper Providence Township last week, and Fire Marshal Joshua Overholt led the investigation to determine the fire's cause. Early on, it was determiend that the fire started in the shrubs in front of the house and then caught the actual structure on fire; however, Overholt did not know the origin of the fire by the time it was cleaned up. He issued a statement to Patch on Wednesday. "The Dale Drive fire’s origin has been classified as 'accidental' with mulch deterioration suspected of spontaneous ignition," he said. "This determination was based on the examination of other mulched areas and their current conditions, occupant interviews and the review …

Republican Lisa A. Mossie’s improbable run for a seat on the Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors came full circle Tuesday night with a victory over Democrat George T. Faris IV. With 100 percent of the votes in, Mossie received 1,797 votes for 58.73 percent while Faris garnered 1,263 votes and 41.27 percent. “I would say this was an unprecedented campaign,” Mossie said Tuesday night from her victory celebration. “I am really proud of our campaign. We remained positive and I think it paid off.” Mossie’s bid for a seat on the board started with a stunning victory in the Republican primary when she defeated current board chairman Robert Fieo. Upper Providence Township Candidates Square Off

The Oaks Neighborhood Association sponsored Meet the Candidates Night.

For a majority of Tuesday night’s Meet the Candidates Night for the open seat on the Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors, Democrat George Faris and Republican Lisa Mossie came across as identical candidates when it came to issues concerning township residents. The event, sponsored by the Oaks Neighborhood Association and attended by roughly 75 people, heard Faris and Mossie tackle the issues of traffic, development, open space and open meetings as both candidates supported each other’s opinions most times. As for the other few minutes, however, Mossie made reference in her opening statement about a flier sent out to residents linking her to the Tea Party and a question later in the hour by a resident asking Faris about the flier…
