Mark Watson was convicted last December and sentenced Wednesday.

An Upper Providence resident was sentenced Wednesday to one to three years in jail on charges of aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person following a February 2012 incident at Victory Park in Royersford Borough.  According to a story in The Reporter, Judge Steven T. O'Neill of the Court of Common Pleas handed down the sentence on Mark Watson, 48, of the 100 block of Orchard Court, after Watson was convicted of the charges in December.  Watson allegedly attacked a former girlfriend who, after arriving at the park to meet with him and discuss their relationship, found him with another female friend. Signs of Spring and GeoCaching at Victory Park

Early spring at Victory Park shows bulbs beginning to sprout and treasure hunters roaming about.

There is treasure buried in the ground at Victory Park. On the unusually brisk afternoon of March 22, visitors to Victory Park, located at Second Ave. and Green Street in Royersford, would have seen scores of brilliant green stems of previously dormant bulbs bursting from the gray earth. Visitors might have also seen two ladies carefully combing the areas along the creek, each armed with a high-tech GPS unit. “Geocaching can take you to some beautiful or unusual places,” Lisa, who is better known by her Geocaching name, “ELMH.” Lisa, a Skippack resident, was with her Geocaching partner, Cindy, a Hatfield resident, whose Geocaching name is “Been There Done That Crew.” According to the Geocaching website, Geocaching is a real-world outdoor …

Royersford Police Budget Top Item for Borough Council

Council members discussed opposing viewpoints during Tuesday's meeting.

The Royersford Police Department budget is still a divisive topic among the borough's council members, as evidenced by discussion during Tuesday's meeting.  Councilman John Kring was adamant that the borough was "not going to spend another nickel" on the police department in the 2013 budget.  At this month's first council meeting two weeks ago, Kring said that the budget included a three percent wage increase but no money for anything else that Chief Kevin Schurr requested.  Councilman Bruce Burns said he felt that the criminal investigator position the Chief Schurr asked for was a good idea.  "I'm looking for measures to keep that position, up until we got that [position] there were crimes not getting solved, and now they are," Burns said…

Too bad the police couldn't keep the fees from stop sign violations - they would make a fortune in Royersford, where hardly no one stops. It's amazing.   more ›

This is a really great offer for the entire local community from the RPD. Not only could it help reunite 'found' bikes with owners, but will also provide free bike safety checks and riding rules for kids AND adults, too. A very civic-minded, generous offer... Thanks to RPD!!   more ›

Berdomas told council that he has a car club, the Roxborough Ridge Runners, who will commit to coming out to Royersford one week a month. Rofo Council to Upgrade Website, Possibly Basketball Court

A recap of Tuesday night's borough council meeting.

The Royersford Borough Council met for a regular meeting on Jan. 10 at Borough Hall. Among the major discussions were the borough's website, the basketball courts at Victory Park, and the approval of an amendment to an ordinance. To open, Borough Manager Michael Leonard gave a short report, with details on the possibility of a website upgrade. "We’re looking into changing and upgrading our website, possibly able to take the building forms off the website," Leonard said. "If you need a roof permit, you can take that right off the website. That’s what our goal is. We're going to put our fee schedule on there. Everybody knows so they can have their permit filled out when they get here. All forms we have will be on there. Royersford Rededicates World War I Memorial Monument

A Victory Park monument was an Eagle Scout project for a local teen.

Fifteen-year-old Boy Scout Kyle Thorpe has spent the last year planning, fundraising and working on his Eagle Scout project to refurbish the World War I Memorial Monument at Victory Park in Royersford. During the rededication ceremony Sunday, members of the community got to see how Thorpe’s work has paid off. The monument looks brand new, with a bronze and black plaque listing the 205 Royersford-area soldiers who fought and died in World War I. Thorpe, a member of Troop 231, sponsored by Sacred Heart Parish in Royersford, said the project got started last July when he approached Royersford Mayor David Urner with the idea to build a monument for his project. "I knew I wanted to do something military," he said. "My grandfathers – one was in …
