New tax collector sworn in; new State Rep. Mark Painter intends to remain visible at township level
Joseph St. Pedro assumed the chairmanship of the Limerick Township Board of Supervisors on Monday evening, taking the gavel from fellow supervisor Kara Shuler. "I have big shoes to fill," St. Pedro said in complimenting Shuler on her execution of the role over the past year. Elaine DeWan will serve as vice-chair. The mandated annual reorganization meeting was attended by former township tax collector ― and newly sworn-in State Representative ― Mark Painter. Painter, a Democrat, upset favored incumbent and former Royersford mayor Tom Quigley in last fall's election. The township supervisors congratulated Painter on taking his seat in Harrisburg, and he, in turn, assured them that he intends to remain in close touch with municipal goings-on…

A look back at the top stories of the week.
Happy New Year to everyone in Patchland! We hope you enjoyed some relaxation and plenty of time with your loved ones. The first week of 2012 was filled with local reorganization at both Limerick and Spring City town meetings. A new president was appointed to the board of supervisors in Limerick, while Spring City decided to retain its current one. In other news, we heard about the closing of a local grocery store, as well as the sad news that Sacred Heart would merge with St. Eleanor. Did you miss something this week? Board reorganizes for 2012 at first meeting of year
The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors elected Kara Shuler chairman at Tuesday's first meeting of 2012. Supervisor Joseph St. Pedro was elected vice chairman after being sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Walter F. Gadzicki Jr. St. Pedro was elected in November 2011 to his first full term as a supervisor. He has been a supervisor since 2009, when he was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the board. Judge Gadzicki also administered the oath of office to Carl Namiotka, who was elected auditor in November. The board reappointed Joseph McGrory to the position of township solicitor, and retained Pennoni Associates and Traffic Planning and Design as the township's civil engineer and traffic engineer, respectively.
