Four Limerick Firefighters Graduate from Academy

Montgomery County Fire Academy honored its most recent set of graduates.

Limerick Fire Company has four new firefighters, according to a post on its Facebook page.  Dan Heatley, Jackie Hood, Austin Sergas and Tyler Oliver finished their classes through the Montgomery County Deaprtment of Public Safety and earned their PA State Firefighter Level One certification.  Limerick Fire Company and the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety shared this photo on their Facebook pages, of the full graduating class. Congratulations to the new firefighters!

Comedy Show to Support Limerick & Trappe Fire Companies

The event will feature three comedians.

Need a laugh on Saturday after a long work week? This weekend brings the Limerick and Trappe Fire Departments' annual Comedy Show, to benefit both departments.  Opening and emceeing the show is Philly native John Kensil. He has performed at several local venues, including the Comedy Cabaret and the Laugh House.  The two headlining comedians this year are Mike Eagan and Chris Rich.  Eagan has more than 25 years' performing experience and has appeared at clubs such as Caroline’s, Catch a Rising Star, Comedy Cabaret, Dangerfield’s and Helium. Rich won a contest, Ladies of Laughter, which led to many appearances on Comedy Central's Premium Blend and on The View on ABC.  Tickets are $25 each (checks payable to Trappe Fire Company) and include …

Smoke Damages Limerick Home

Emergency crews responded to a fire call in the Golf Ridge subdivision.

Limerick and Linfield Fire Department crews, among others, responded this evening to an emergency situation that turned out to be a home full of smoke from a basement heater. Limerick Fire Department deputy chief Glen Russell said that the house, on Dusseldorf Road in Limerick, was filled with smoke when the homeowner returned home. She called 911 and reported that all her smoke detectors were going off and the house was full of smoke.  Fire crews arrived and located the problem in the basement. Russell said there was no fire, but the preliminary investigation showed it might be related to a heater for a turtle tank.  Crews were on scene for about an hour and a half before the incident was over.  Russell said that the only lasting effects …

Limerick, Linfield Fire Co. Look to Expand

The fire companies presented their budget and long-term plans to the board.

Both Limerick and Linfield Fire Companies are hoping to expand in the next year or two, according to Limerick Chief Ken Shuler and Linfield Chief Don Maleta.  Both chiefs said their equipment and personnel needs have outgrown their current buildings. Both stations need shower and sleeping facilities.  "During the hurricane, we had people sleeping on the floor," Shuler said.  Over the last few years, Limerick FD has added an ambulance station to its location which cut ambulance response time from 12-14 minutes down to 3-6 minutes. Linfield FD hopes to add an ambulance there, too.  Linfield's firefighters are in the process of being certified for water rescue operations.  Both departments would also like to have a traning facility in this …

Limerick Fire Co Holding 13th Annual Golf Outing

The annual event benefits the volunteer organization

The following release was submitted by Joe Greenwald of Greenwald Communications Associates: Limerick, PA (May 29, 2012) – Limerick Fire Company will host its 13th Annual Golf Outing on Wednesday, June 6th. The Outing will take place at Turtle Creek Golf Course in Limerick, PA. There are two different Shotgun Tee-times that players can choose from – 8am or 1:30pm. The cost for the Outing is $90 per person and includes greens fee, cart, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Russell's Shooter Arrested for Sex Crimes

MERCURY: Birdsboro shooting suspect charged with sex crimes involving teen

The following comes from Brandie Kessler of The Pottstown Mercury: SPRING TOWNSHIP — A Birdsboro man charged with attempting to kill a Limerick Fire Company official who is also a local realtor and his girlfriend’s ex-husband, will go to trial after waiving his preliminary hearing Tuesday. Christopher D. Yingling, 41, of 516 W. 2nd St., was returned to Berks County Prison in lieu of $400,000 cash bail after he waived his hearing before District Judge Ann Young. Yingling is accused of shooting Glen Russell, the deputy fire chief with Limerick Fire Company, on Jan. 24 while Russell was in a vehicle in a parking lot awaiting a court-appointed meeting with his ex-wife, who was Yingling’s girlfriend. Limerick Deputy Fire Chief Shot Tuesday

Russell is currently hospitalized and in stable condition.

The following is from Dwayne Parker, reporter for WFMZ-TV: SPRING TWP., Pa. - Police said a domestic dispute may have led to the shooting of Limerick Deputy Fire Chief Glen Russell. Investigators said the shooting happened as Russell, 43, was getting out of his car shortly before 11 a.m., outside the Montrose Realty Inc. office, 2917 Windmill Rd., in Spring Twp. Berks Co. Court documents show Russell was about to meet his ex-wife for a court-appointed meeting. Spring Township Police arrested Christopher Yingling, 41, of Birdsboro, and charged him with the shooting. Police said Russell identified his shooter as Yingling, and also said Yingling was his ex-wife's boyfriend. For the full story, click here.

Limerick Fire Company Holds Tree Sale

The following was sent in to Patch by Joe Greenwald: Limerick Fire Company has announced that it has commenced its annual Christmas tree sale at the fire house located at 390 W. Ridge Pike. Douglas and Fraser fir trees, from six to nine feet tall will be available. The hours of operation are 6 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. “We hope the community will come out and support the fire company by purchasing a tree from us,” stated Ken Shuler, fire chief in Limerick. “To show our appreciation, anyone interested can go to our website to print a $10 Off coupon at www.limerickfirerescue.org”.
