A Collegeville resident identified an armed robber in June, leading to his arrest.
Limerick Township Police Chief William Albany presented several commendations at Tuesday night's Limerick Township board of supervisors meeting. First up was Collegeville resident Regina Phillips, who was recognized for her role in apprehending an armed robber who stole jewelry from Kohl's several months ago. Reading from the Citizen's Commendation, Albany said that Phillips had arrived at Kohl's on the morning of June 18 when she noticed a suspicious man exiting the Kohl's. Phillips later told police that the man was trying to cover his face. She also saw store employees come out of the store and appear to be searching for someone. Phillips noted the make and model of the suspect's car and that his license plate was covered with blue …

New homes on Cherry Lane and Lewis Road; Welsh Subaru expanding
The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors saw the first site plans for a new housing development at Tuesday night's meeting. The new homes will be built at the corner of Cherry Lane and Lewis Road, on the Linsenmaier farm. East and West Cherry Lanes will be straightened out and joined at the existing West Cherry Lane intersection. The development plan will have 160 apartments in six buildings and 31 townhomes. Two of the apartment buildings - the two closest to the existing homes on East Cherry Lane - will have sections that are two stories. The rest of the apartments will be three-story walk-ups. Board chair Kara Shuler said she liked the two-story design. "It doesn't tower over the homes that are already there," Shuler said. The …
Developer presents preliminary plans at board meeting
Limerick Township should soon be getting a new medical office building if the plans shown at Tuesday's Limerick Board of Supervisors meeting are approved. The location in the Linfield Corporate Center is adjacent to the Physicians' Care Surgical Hospital, a physician-owned outpatient surgery facility. Township to pursue legal remedies with Dewey Homes
Limerick Township's Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday night to pursue legal action against Dewey Homes, the developers of the Raven's Claw neighborhood, due to their failure to complete promised public improvements. As part of the land development process, developers are often asked to make improvements to public areas and roads, such as adding streetlights and handling stormwater and sanitary issues. Solicitor Joseph McGrory said that an escrow account set up to pay for those public improvements is underfunded. The developers also missed a deadline to make the improvements. The board voted to authorize McGrory to start this legal process. The township will declare the developers in default, which means they can take the escrow money …

Board told about series of accusations during meeting
A man who spoke during public comments at Tuesday's Limerick Township Board of Supervisors meeting claimed the township was responsible for the death of his cousin, who he said was arrested following a traffic stop by township police. A visibly upset David Ewald said he filed a lawsuit recently over the wrongful death of his cousin, who Ewald claims committed suicide in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in October. Ewald, who identified his cousin only by the name George, said that George was pulled over in Limerick Township by Officer John Cassel because Ewald forgot to renew registration on his truck. Ewald said that Cassel found a warrant on George in Maryland and claimed a Maryland warrant is "no good" in Pennsylvania. Ewald …

Limerick Police Department recognizes area resident for tip that led to arrests
Chief William Albany of the Limerick Police Department recognized Collegeville resident Ken Leflar at Tuesday night's Board of Supervisor's meeting, presenting him with a Citizen's Commendation. Leflar called the police in February 2012 to report two suspicious men buying items with multiple credit cards at the Sunoco convenience store on Ridge Pike. Leflar had noticed the same two men earlier in the evening, also purchasing items with multiple cards, at a Wawa store in Collegeville. When Limerick officers stopped the two men, they found fraudulent cards, cigarettes and gift cards in the car. They were arrested and charged with fraud. Albany said that the arrests led to the discovery of an international fraud ring. The two suspects had …

Construction on Lewis Road is on schedule according to PECO, township manager Dan Kerr said at Tuesday's Limerick Township Board of Supervisors meeting. Supervisor Tom Neafcy brought the project up toward the end of the meeting during supervisors' comments, saying it was supposed to start two weeks ago. Kerr said everything was online according to their schedule, with crews surveying the area and marking everything. One pole has been placed and more construction will follow, which will occur from 9:00am to 3:00pm during the day. The board also heard from Carl Royer regarding the township's Community Development Block Grant program. Royer said the township received $185,301 in grant money, only $2,000 less than last year. Lewis Road project to begin Monday, supervisors send letter supporting airport expansion
Limerick Township's massive Ridge Pike rezoning project moved forward again at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, with a decision to proceed with developing a plan to create new zoning districts. The township's staff has created the beginnings of a redistricting plan. Solicitor Joseph McGrory and township manager Dan Kerr said they just needed some direction from the board on whether they preferred the district or the overlay plan. "If you go with the district," McGrory told the board, "the plan will just need adjusting [as the project develops]. Doing an overlay means a total rewrite." Supervisors Thomas Neafcy, Joseph St. Pedro and Elaine DeWan all said they supported the zoning district plan. Supervisor Ken Sperring, who said at …
