Limerick Gift and Garden Plans Grand Opening

The new Limerick Gift and Garden will hold their grand opening on March 23 and 24.

An old friend has a new face on Ridge Pike. Limerick Gift and Garden, formerly Oaks Garden Center, opened on Friday, March 1. Owner Joe Dudek said they moved locations due to the development and the tearing down of the Oaks building. The new location, located at 280 Ridge Pike, will not provide the bulk products like the Oaks location, however Dudek said the gift portion of the business will play a more prominent role. Dudek said Limerick just recently rezoned the area of Ridge Pike they moved into for commercial, with the intention for it to be the next Skippack Village, and the family wanted to get into Limerick early. The building they are currently in is over 100 years old and they have restored it and much of the property, as well. …

The location has gas pumps, a car wash, a Beantime Coffee and Cappucino, and a convenience store in addition to the Subway sandwich shop. The store is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Rep. Mark Painter Outlines Plans for 2013

Local representative speaks of swearing in, outlook for the future and property taxes.

After 15 years as the Limerick Tax Collector, Mark Painter said he seems a logical choice for someone to represent the Pottstown, Limerick and Pottsgrove areas. The Representative was sworn in on Jan. 1 and took time during a recent broadcast of "Legislative Journal" to chat about his outlook for the coming years. Painter was joined by his wife, son and daughter-in-law for the swearing in, and said it was a great experience. Painter was named to three committees for the state: agriculture, finance and local goverment. "It's a natural fit," said Painter. Painter noted that property taxes is one of the state, and his local area's, largest points of concern. "It's the number one issue in my district, and for 15 years as a tax collector on the…

Nuke Plant May Bring In The Big Guns

Exelon Nuclear's Limerick Generating Station soon may be guarded by heavier artillery.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has proposed a new rule. The government-run organization, which aims to "protect people and the environment," according to its website, says it would allow guards at stations such as the Exelon Nuclear's Limerick Generating Station to carry "enhanced weapons." According to a report in the San Fransisco Chronicle, the NRC said the larger weapons may be used to "to guard spent fuel rods being stored at nuclear power plants." Limerick is one of many nuclear plants in the nation that must store its own "spent fuel" cells. "Spent fuel is the waste by-product of nuclear fission reactors and is primarily uranium that no longer produces enough heat to produce the steam to run generators, but which remains …
