Rep. Mark Painter Outlines Plans for 2013

Local representative speaks of swearing in, outlook for the future and property taxes.

After 15 years as the Limerick Tax Collector, Mark Painter said he seems a logical choice for someone to represent the Pottstown, Limerick and Pottsgrove areas. The Representative was sworn in on Jan. 1 and took time during a recent broadcast of "Legislative Journal" to chat about his outlook for the coming years. Painter was joined by his wife, son and daughter-in-law for the swearing in, and said it was a great experience. Painter was named to three committees for the state: agriculture, finance and local goverment. "It's a natural fit," said Painter. Lower Pottsgrove Man Sentenced for Abusing 4 Month Old Son

Jacob Govinda Zlomek, 26, was sentenced to two-and-a-half to five years in state prison and 12 years of probation for the repeated abuse of his 17-week-old son.

Western Center Sees Success in SkillsUSA Competition

A recap of last month's leadership and skills competition for vocational schools.

The Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center, located in Royersford, played host to the annual district competition of the SkillsUSA contest on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. SkillsUSA is a compilation of vocational skills and leadership competitions for vocational students across the country. All-in-all, the Western Center kids did an outstanding job, placing in the top three in 23 categories, including 10 first place performances. Those first place students will no prepare for the state tournament, which is being held in Hershey on April 18-20. There are eight technical schools and two post-secondary schools in the Western Center's district (District 2) according to Student Success Coordinator and SkillsUSA Advisor Cindy Prindle.
