MontCo Seeks Grant for Inmate Re-Entry Program

Montgomery County Commissioners approved an application for $185,000 in federal grant funds for the program.

  Montgomery County Commissioners are seeking a grant to fund a 12-month pilot program for the Montgomery County Correctional Facility to help inmates find gainful employment after being released. According to a press release from Montgomery County, 62 percent of inmates in Montgomery County return to prison. “The recidivism rate, while better than the national average, is too high,” said Josh Shapiro, chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “And we need to do something about it.” This week, the commissioners approved the application for a $185,000 federal grant that would supplement $270,00 in state workforce development funds. Lorraine 613 u have no idea what ur talking about. There are some of us who have been in jail or had drug problems who used the programs the county had to help themselves. So until u walk in my shoes or anyone elses keep your comments to yourself. Yes there are some people who abuse the system but. Some truly want to better themselves. County Jail to House State Inmates

County officials say convicted murderers and those imprisoned for other serious crimes are 'less likely' to be housed in the Eagleville facility.

The Montgomery County Correctional Facility in the Eagleville section of Lower Providence will house an indeterminate number of state Department of Corrections inmates on work release, following an agreement approved Thursday by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. Uri Monson, the county's chief financial officer, said the state is seeking multiple avenues to reduce "severe overcrowding" in its prisons and that the Department of Corrections will reimburse the county at the maximum allowable rate of $65 per day per prisoner. Where can I find more information on this, as to when it will begin? How can inmates apply or who decides on such? Like will it first be optional to those already sitting in MCCF looking at/pending a state sentence? I think personally this is a wonderful idea. Rofo Man Arrested for Alleged Child Assault

A Royersford man was arraigned on Tuesday for allegations of an assault on a 3-year-old

Earl Schlichter, 54 of the 300 block of Main Street in Royersford was arrested on Tuesday for simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of a child, and harassment by physical contact, according to Royersford police. Schlichter was taken into custody on Tuesday and arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Walter Gadzicki Jr. Schlichter allegedly assualted a 3-year-old child that is his girlfriend's grandson, according to the police report released by the Royersford Police Department. Officer Mark Smythe confirmed Schlichter and the boy's grandmother live together. The child was taken to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for treatment and released later on Tuesday evening.
