New Montgomery Police Recruit Fills Vacancy

A Mt. Pocono native beat out 324 applicants to grab the one vacancy at Montgomery Township Police left by the retirement of Chief Richard Brady. John J. Rushin — a part-time cop with Spring City Police in Chester County — was sworn in as a recruit police officer by township supervisors on Dec. 17. Brady retired on Sept. 30, after 42 years of service. Rushin was the “top-ranked candidate for the position,” according to police Chief Scott Bendig. Bendig said a recruit testing process was initiated in second quarter 2012, with 324 applicants vying for the position of recruit officer. Rushin, a sergeant with the Philadelphia Warrant Unit, endured a hiring process that included a written exam, a physical agility test, a police oral review board…
