Weiss called Brown’s resignation “unfortunate” and said that he got a little bit of a “shock” when he was notified. “He did a fine job as chief,” Weiss said. “It’s a tough loss for the borough. We had the right guy.” It’s unclear who will be taking over on the interim basis between Brown’s last day [April 20] and …

Spring City veterans center to cut 32 jobs this week

The following comes from Frank Otto of The Pottstown Mercury: SPRING CITY — The Southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Center will cut 32 positions within a week, a spokeswoman said Monday. Joan Nissley, the press secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, said that throughout the week, employees are being notified that their positions are being eliminated. Maybe if the pavement at Rite Aid wasn't completely torn up people wouldn't feel they would have to cross before that mess at the corner. Speed limits are set for a reason. Lenient or not, if you plan on doing 10 over you should be extra attentive in a residential area.   more ›

Main Street Cafe Aiming for Community Feel

The breakfast/lunch shop on Main Street in Royersford had its grand opening on Jan. 5.

Over the past few weeks, a lot of chatter was flowing throughout town about a new cafe opening up on Main Street in Royersford. Unfortunately for arts enthusiasts, The Bent Note Cafe, formerly located at 263 Main St., closed its doors and a "For Rent" sign could be seen in the bare window. Not long after, between mid-and-late November, two Bucks County natives found an ad on the Internet for the shop. "He called me at the end of November and I was working at a local café where I worked then and hanging out with my friends," said co-owner Dean O'Connor, who is the cafe's chef and currently lives in Warminster. "He sent me a message saying, ‘Hey, are you still interested in owning your own restaurant?’ The next thing you know, it was like a …

Where Art Plays Its Part: Volume X: Performance Poet Frank Wolfe

Frank Wolfe is known as the Bagel Guy, in line with a renowned local piece in his latest self-published book of poetry.

The often soft-spoken Frank Wolfe is known for his unexpected sudden stage charisma in his most prominent of all artistic roles—as a performance poet. Like many artists, Wolfe’s talents and interests don’t fall under just one umbrella but instead stretch into different types of expression. In addition to the performance poetry he’s known for so well, Wolfe is also a short story writer and painter. On top of that, he sometimes tests out pencil and chalk portraits and drawings inspired by friends, family and local landscapes. He is newly known as a standup comedian, too. To Wolfe, paper and the stage are two places where he makes comfortable homes for himself by way of his heart. His interest in writing began decades ago. During his junior …
