A 'C'mon, Man!' For Toyota

Looking for something other than a Camry from one of the world's largest automakers.

My car’s rear seats don’t fold down. They did on my previous car, which was a coupe version of my current car, but my car’s first owner didn’t pony up the money for the cold-weather package … so now I’m stuck with a small trunk and no headlamp washers.  First world problems, I know. And because my seats don’t fold down, whenever I want to go skiing, or surfing, or just carry a long stick in my vehicle, I’ve got to run to my mother. She drives a 2001 Toyota RAV4. It’s cavernous, can plow through 2 feet of snow with its gas-guzzling, always-on 4-wheel drive system and 70-series tires, and is probably the slowest vehicle I’ve ever driven. I’m always welcome to drive it when I need to take a tortuous trip to Ikea and I love it.  But, being a …

Who Should be Responsible for 'Missing' Person Searches?

The disappearance, and subsequent recovery, of Matthew Royer has started a lively debate among Patch readers on missing person investigations.

Skippack man Matthew Royer was located Thursday after disappearing on his way home from the Univeristy of Rhode Island on May 18. The Royer family asked the media to consider this a "private and closed matter," and there have been no details on the reasons for his disapearance, or the details surrounding his recovery. Patch readers, however, have started a lively discussion on if indivuduals who go missing are found to have left on their own accord without telling anyone, who should be responsible for the search efforts? Click here for the lengthy discussion, see below to vote in a poll.

These people used police force and taxpayers money to find their "lost" child. I think the public has te right to know why behind him running away. We paid a chunk of money to be told it was a private matter. Not cutting it when it is on our dime.   more ›

Jersey Shore Summer 2013: Beach Guide

Planning a vacation or just a day trip? Patch has all the information on the Shore's best beaches

More than six months after Superstorm Sandy caused unprecedented damage to the Jersey Shore region, the beaches will be open for Memorial Day Weekend and the summer. While certain access points and facilities might be closed as municipalities continue to work on restoration, for the most part, the beaches will be operational. The only beach that remains off limits to the public is Mantoloking. The borough was home to a breach that split Ocean County's northern barrier island in half and was one of the hardest hit communities in New Jersey during the storm. So as you prepare to stick your toes in the sand, are you wondering what will be accessible after Sandy? Need to know how much it will cost to buy badges to your favorite beach? Curious …

Emergency Responders Stage Car Crash at PJPHS

The pre-prom event involved several crews and some brave drama club members, and emphasized for students the serious consequences of distracted or impaired driving.

Several local first responder departments set up a two-vehicle crash rescue demonstration for students at Pope John Paul II High School Thursday morning. "The whole point was to get them thinking about driving after drinking or not paying attention to the road," said Royersford firefighter Dave Hummel. Hummel said that students from the PJPII Drama Club participated, playing the crash victims, and that Royersford and Trappe Fire Departments, Upper Providence Emergency Services, the Upper Providence Police Department, MidAtlantic MedEvac and Friendship Ambulance all took part. The scenario was set up as if two carloads of teenagers had crashed into one another. "We played it out as the driver of one of the vehicles had been drinking, and …

My son was there and having had friends in this situation in real life it was a power reminder of the importance of safe driving. One of PJPII's students was seriously injured and med-evacuated this year after a car accident that was not her fault. They need to remember that even if they are doing everything right there are others out there who are not, so they have to be extra diligent!!!   more ›

Speaking of bad laws, how about these? Black people weren't allowed to learn to read or vote. Neither were women. You could be arrested for walking your cow down Germantown Ave. if you walked down Broad Street at night you had to swing a lantern to & fro. Antiquated? Yes. Many old laws still sit on the books because it's too difficult & costly to remove them. They just aren't enforced because …   more ›
