ReplyAnn, with all due respect, characterizing Dr. Stout's piece as a response to Governor Tom Corbett's budget address does both her and Patch readers a disservice.
Dr. Stout acknowledges Pennsylvanians are "contemplating the governor’s budget proposal," but says absolutely nothing more about it. That's probably appropriate, in light of the fact that Dr. Stout was among individuals chosen by the governor-elect to help craft his administration's thinking on state education issues in the weeks preceding his budget speech.
What MCCC's president does effectively here, as she has elsewhere, is to blow the college's horn while making a general case for community college education as a means to improve workforce abilities and spur local economic growth.
The governor surely will agree with her premise, even though he claims the state can't afford it.
