FINAL UPDATE: Rothenberger Receives Summary Citation for Wine & Spirits Theft

A final update to last week's retail theft at the Limerick Wine & Spirits store.

According to a police report from the Limerick Township Police Department, 22-year-old Hassan Rothenberger of Pottstown, who was arrested for retail theft last Wednesday, received a summary citation for the crime. The report said this was given to him because he had no prior arrests for retail theft.

Rothenberger stole three bottles of liquor from the Limerick Wine & Spirits store valued at $130.47. He fled the store when he was seen, leaving his car running in the parking lot.

He was later seen coming out of Tuscany Pizza and getting into a red Ford vehicle before he was arrested, housed and processed.

Limerick Township Police Chief Bill Albany has reported the suspect of the theft at the Wine and Spirits on Ridge Pike has been apprehended and is in custody.

According to Albany, 22-year-old Hassan Rothenberger came into the store and was observed stealing "several bottles of alcohol." He then fled to a nearby wooded area.

Police were on scene checking the area. It was reported that he entered a store to call someone to come pick him up. He moved his coat and hat to change his appearance before this.

He was then observed getting into a red vehicle in front of and was apprehended.

Rothenberger is currently on bail for a recent assault in Pottstown and is on parol from 2008 drug-related charges.

According to an assistant manager at the , located on Ridge Pike, there was a theft at the store. Reports were made to Patch between noon and 1 p.m. The location of the suspect is currently unknown.

The manager told Patch Editor Kevin Haslam that the alleged thief walked in the store while his car was still running, took an undisclosed amount of bottles and ran out. Police arrived on scene shortly after.

According to the source, the man is from Pottstown and his car has been towed away. Three bottles have been recovered by police.
