The sentencing came from allegations that the man kidnapped, beat and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend.

NORRISTOWN – A Royersford man is headed to state prison after admitting to charges he kidnapped, beat and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend during an assault in Salford after she ended their relationship.

Daman Andrew Smoot, 28, of the 200 block of Main Street, was sentenced to five-to-10 years in a state correctional facility, to be followed by five years’ probation, after he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping and terroristic threats in connection with the June 23, 2011, assault that occurred near Hausman and Camp Green Lane roads in Salford.

“He admitted to attempting to cause serious bodily injury to the victim. He took her into the woods and threatened to kill her,” alleged Assistant District Attorney Wallis Brooks, who leads the district attorney’s domestic violence prosecution unit. “I think she is traumatized. This has probably given her a lifelong burden to carry.”

After the assault, during which Smoot punched the victim multiple times, the victim was transported to Grand View Hospital, where she was treated for contusions to her face and arms, as well as a bite mark to her left hand. Some of the injuries occurred as the woman tried to escape from Smoot, authorities said.
